2025 Nanaimo Reports

Picked up a 67cm spring (marble) and a hatch coho last night off the fingers. Both on a cop car skinny g. Spring was at 150 and coho was at 75. Released several wild coho with only the 1 hatchery fish. My hatch to wild ratios have not been very good so far this year.

Had a productive beauty evening at Entrance. Got our 3 keeper springs at 170' biggest was a fat 76". Also released an over and kept one hatch coho. Somehow, despite being surrounded by seals none of them got ahold of our fish, though I did horse the over in and have no idea how it didn't end up being a rock sausage sandwich.
Back home before sunset.

What did you get your springs on?

White hoochie, Double black flasher. One of them was full of 5" herring, so maybe bigger spoons than we were using on the other side would have been better.
As flywheel said, ours were on the same bait ball which we kept circling back to, though the over was a bit away from that. Other bait balls though: no love.

Great info thanks. Heading back out tomorrow and Saturday.

We were out last night as well. Fished between the fingers and half way to neck point. Picked up our 6 hatch coho. Released at least a dozen wild. Fished deeper and further out after that looking for springs. Caught another 4 hatch coho and no springs. Saw some beauties at the cleaning table that were caught at Entrance. We never went over that way so our mistake. Beautiful afternoon/evening on the water.

fished entrance this morning starting at 6, had our two slot spring of 79 and 74 by 7 am l. We were fishing 6 inch plugs down in the mud at 240 in 220 ft of water with the 600 old faithful doing most of the work. Bait and fish marks all over the screen, released one wild coho and another 10 or so under size springs. Friend fishing the fingers and neck point seemed to be getting into more coho that way if your after hatch fish.

Fished thrasher this morning, first boat out at about 5:45. Got my two hatch coho after about weeding through about 30 unclipped….lol. It was a busy fishing with just myself on the boat. Cop car skinny G with the bloody tail seamed to be the favorite. Fishing in 120-200 with riggers at 100.

Went over to Pollier after to find some chinook with nothing in a spot that produced last year. Even went further south to the Galliano flats as a bunch of boats were over there and no fish except a ton of shakers/undersize.

Scooted all the way back to entrance for the small high tide at 1:30 and got a a 74 chinook in 180-200 feet of water with the riggers in the mud. Watched a few other boats get similar fish at the little high tide as well. Mine was on a naked 602 3” plug.

Lots of scooting around but a great day on the water. All the boats I came close to were happy to share tips and everyone was in good spirits, glad to see we aren’t battle fishing out there!!!

Fished around the grande tonight with a good buddy. I took home a nice clipped coho from 171’ on a white hootchie. Buddy took home a 72cm white spring, 151’ on a beat up old cop car skinny g. Big herring in the spring. Lots of other smaller fish released on same gear.
