Anyone head out lately?
We went out 10 days ago east of Hornby. Plenty of chinook biting, but none of the right size. Most were just under.
Wondering if its worth trying again...did they gain a couple pounds in a couple weeks?

Wait Grasshopper. Give them a month and you will get a bigger percentage of legals. And if you are getting a bunch of sub legals, move and let them grow up. In my experiance, you have a better chance during the winter, of getting a legal chinook at Kitty Coleman than Hornby

Thanks Bryan. Yeah...I don't like hooking a bunch of young chinook and releasing. When my keep rate is zero...that's not cool. I'll think about the run up to Kitty...or CnB?

Lambert Channel was very good for legal Chinook Sunday north of Ford Cove. 150 feet and deeper. Disco Hoochies and Spoons.

Thanks Guys ... been a while since I've been on here. I've never gone after winter springs but have some senior staff out from Ottawa next week so I thought I'd give it a try and take them out. Was planning on Lambert weather permitting. 2 more year to retirement and I hope to be posting here more frequently

Fish south Hornby earlier in the week, lots of undersized springs and small coho. One 13 lb red spring taken at 175 feet on a white hoochie right before we were about to go in.

Had some luck last week next to the sea lions south of Hornsby….3 keepers, 3 lost and 7 released. Blue Meanie was working.

Only place you can keep a salmon is Toba. Good if you can get there, but we need to sacrifice a weather man first! Windy! Coho open June 1st.

And jervis...usual rules, one hatchery per day 62 and over. Break out the charts to figure out boundaries but the usual spots are good to go.

I haven't checked but I'd guess bute is open to same regs as toba.

It's been 15 years since I've been salmon fishing with my own boat, and this will be my first year boat fishing out of Comox. Lots to learn, looking forward to the reports! Let's go!

Went out today, mostly to explore and get a feel for running things on the new boat. We dropped a couple crab traps on the way out, no keepers.

Cut over to Sentry and then Grants. We threw back a couple smallish lings and a rockfish. No other action. We were trolling spoons about 30" behind the flasher between 80 and 200', 15# cannonballs, at 3-3.5 kts. I think I need to tweak my setup a bit, it's been a while.

It was a good day though, glass going out and warm, then chop picking up on the way back across the strait this evening made for a good run, the BV ate it up.
