2025 Campbell River Reports

How deep is the fishing usually? And how suitable are these spots for a smaller boat. We have a 13' Whaler, with just one rigger, so would be running one rod or maybe two max. Might take the boat up to Granite Bay, and come down from lauching there.
the fishing is 50-90’ typically. i was fishing alongside a few smaller boats that got up there no problem. but watch the wind as any sustained NW wind up there can be quite nasty.

We fished the lighthouse last weekend with pink hootchies and only caught mostly pinks. A couple of nice springs around 78 cm made it worth while. Maybe I need to try a different shade of pink?

Did alright mid morning at plumper. 1 limit of sockeye and a couple pinks in the boat in under 2 hours. Released quite a few pinks and lost a few fish at the boat as well. Lots of action. Would of shifted to deepwater bay around tide change like a lot of the other boats did but kids wanted to be done early today so we left. It was fun though, happy to be able to get out and get some sockeye with the kids.

Fast and furious at Deepwater side of passage this morning..3hrs for 3 limits, used the usual sockeye gear 40- 70ft..lots of pinks mixed in there..lost track of our loneline releases, the closed section of deepwater bay was stuffed with sockeye waiting for tide to change when we left.
sweet, that is great! Hoping to get out Saturday. Are you finding favorable portions of the tide? Or go up at slack, fish, come home at slack?

Been reading about black hooks vs silver, any merit there you think?

Always found sockeye on this side of island are totally different than Alberni Inlet fish..no need to be out there at 1st light, find the fish and you'll get them, lots of flash in the water, fish 4 rods.
We launched at the crack of 9am in Campbell River..back at ramp around 1pm..low tide at ramp was 8am this morning..transit of narrows was like a pond heading north, southbound we had the tide rips on south end of narrows, actual lines in the water was more like 2+ hrs for us

I'll be up that way again Saturday, later in day though, might even run up to Greensea or Little Bear Bay for ***** and giggles, wife and I will be staying over night up there somewhere on the hook.
Good luck to ya!

went up to Deepwater yesterday at 7am. absolute pink madness. couldn’t keep them off. only managed two sox. talked to many who echoed the same. finally pulled the pin and scratched up a few lings on whole herring i had caught on sabiki jigs a while back apparently it was bonkers at Plumper at 5:30 -7:00 am.

i witnessed a boat collision between a DE and a 16’ Lund ; a near miss of two very large boats with a very small child driving up on the flybridge, as many as 20 boats inside the deepwater closure, and someone dumped their boat in the middle of the Browns Bay launch.

these limited sockeye openings truly bring out the mouth breathers…..

Hooked one sock and landed one sock. Some big pinks, 20 pound lingcod that popped off at the boat, and some smooth brained boat operators to boot. Pretty good day. 🤙

Wed north of CR. Limits of Socks for 3 clients and released some Coho, Pinks and a Spring.
All from daylight in 3 hr window. Done early then off the water to visit a buddy at the Tyee Club and let the pooch have a nice long walk on the beach. Nice to see some Tyees coming in!

Typical Sockeye gear, from 50' right to the surface... lots of gear out, lots of dummy flashers..you guys know the drill or should i say krill...hint hint 😉😀

Hey there any sockeye reports for today. I was thinking of heading that way tomorrow just wondering if it’s a pink Show now or are there still some socks around.

Thanks in advance

I would say the sox have move on. I fished yesterday and today. got three sox yesterday and a huge pile of pinks. No sox today, all pinks. At the ramp when I returned, the creel survey fellow said that only one one boat had a sockeye (and only one). So there's still a crazy amount of pinks, but sox are hard to find.
