2024 Powell River Reports

Fished 11 to 3 today between rebecca rocks and the point, was pretty slow, released 3 wild coho and then landed a 62cm chinook.

Hows everyone else doing? There was 10 or so boats out there fishing..

heading up to powell river tomorrow for the long weekend and gonna do some salmon fishing if weather permits. Haven't fished the area much other than a few times at Grants reef, a few spots on Texada and the backside of Harwood. Anyone out lately care to share a recent report? Will have a couple young kids in tow so will have to be decent weather for us so fingers crossed for that. thx

Fished from the harbour north up past the mill last night. The mill north was most productive. Tons of bait on the surface. Trolled through it shallow 30-60’ of rigger for a while and consistently picked up fish. Nothing huge. Lots of bait right on bottom there too. 200-250’ deep. Fished about 215-235’ of rigger. Bigger fish down deeper for sure.

That's what we've been finding too. Bigger fish down deep, as close to the bottom as you dare, in 200' of water.
For us, hoochies catching the bigger fish, unders & coho only on spoons. Purple haze & green spatterback both working. Purple more consistent.
One evening last week we pulled in 3 Chinook, right on the upper length limit. The first one was so dark, I released it at the side of the boat. The other two were not nearly as dark, so we kept them. Both had pale marbled meat.
I've never seen deep running dark Chinook before. Miles from any fresh water. Weird.
