ABCCDCE7-F37C-4206-A99F-AFEEAC87CB99.pngIt would appear they’re still hosting the derby. It’s a blast of a time and I still plan to attend.

Could they do a catch and release derby if it was non retention? It is unclear in the FN if it is closed or non-retention. Unless someone else can see it.

'Effective 00:01 hours October 19 until 23:59 hours December 31, 2023, the daily limit of Chum salmon is zero (0) in the following waters:
Areas 111, 11 to 20, and Subareas 29-1 to 29-5 and 29-8'.

Variation Order: 2023-RFQ-411
Technically it’s non retention. I’m in BB now and they’re trying to figure out what to do. They’re not saying cancelled but not sure how they have a choice. Hope most people with tickets will still come and support the event even if no Chum are going home.

Ran 4 lines today, 2 chum & 2 coho set ups varying speeds.
Fished 10:30-2, saw lots of jumpers. Trolled from B bay to loggers.

12 fish on, 8 chum released at the boat, 4 long line releases.

11 bites were on the chum gear.
The coho gear bite unfortunately was one of the long line release.

It was a little lean in the hatchery coho production department but the event as always was well run and the laughs were plentiful. The winning (and only hatchery fish landed) tipped the scale at 1.8 lbs.

Hats off to the gang at Browns Bay for pulling this off in spite of DFO dropping this on them with no notice.

We ran coho great and got two bites, a small China rockfish and an even smaller unclipped salmon. Both swam away from the boat. Once we found out the leaderboard had one entry at 1.8 pounds, there were discussions on the jack we released. Clear memories on the adipose fun.
Fishing is getting so politically screwed, that we are now discussing such things!
Nice weather and good times!
