2021 Nanoose Bay/French Creek Reports

Those Norwegian jigs were our go to in Newfoundland back in the day. Newfie cod, so good!!!
I remember those days. The old double hook lead jig was also a good one. I remember how sore my arm and shoulder were after a good day of jigging

Went out for a Father’s Day fish with a friend on his boat. First time ever fishing off French Creek. Such an amazing afternoon. Beautiful sun, no wind. Insane fishing. Released 16 springs within 4 hours. Only 4 were undersized, the rest were 9-13lbs. Beautiful fish. Over half were wild. Amy truck spoon and hoochie. Fish were shallow, 100-120 ft.

They're not "wild" any more. They're "Unclipped" now.

Still great fishing. Released one oversized this morning and a couple keepers. Flasher /white hootchie 150 feet Douglas I.
I am curious to see where the fish were but I can’t find Douglas Island on my map. Can you guide me a bit more please?

Im surprised not more reports with the amount of boats out there yesterday off FC.
We trolled the hump to no avail.
Left looking for bait and found it 30min run away.
We hooked 5 springs, long release on 2 , 3rd was foul hooked in tail, and bonked 2 x 68-70cm, beautiful red springs, both were wild.
Buzz bombing was the trick in 50-100ft of water, couple nice rock cod and 1 big (kelp)greenling which we cooked up for dinner
Was it ever nice, flat calm and hot out there!
Sunblock was our friend lol

Man I should of stayed out lol, nice to meet you. The launch got right hectic then. I’m also surprised by the lack of reports considering the amount of boats out.

We have been out a few days in a row. Fishing still hot. Find we limit out quick. White hootchies 160 down. Find some bait and fish on. Going to try plugs for the next trip out to have better fights. Most of our fish are in the 10-12 lb range but have released a couple 20lb plus. Area is Gerald island, ballenas and Douglas

Out front yesterday the fishing was good ! Using a 6” 602uvii plug on one side and a skinny g herring aide on the other. Depths from 120ft - 200ft…had to really stay on top of the bait to keep hitting fish, but we brought home a couple nice ones !

Had a great evening with the boy out front. Hit lots springs and kept 2 one at 80cm and just under 16 and a shorter one but about 15 lbs real football shape. Was running 6 and 7 inch plugs as the fish had big herring in the stomach.

Had a friend and our two boys out Saturday evening and got into some awesome fishing. Kept our 4 as we each reeled in a keeper size. One that was 16 lbs and 80cm bang on. Released one that was well over which was kinda painful to do as it was bleeding pretty good from the hook up. Lots of action fishing 6 and 7 inch plugs, the salmon had big herring, one had 9 inch herring in the stomach. Was a perfect night calm waters and fishy.

Awesome Dave, thanks for the reports. I’ll be out one or two evenings this week. Hopefully it stays fishy.

Got out for a couple of hours last night, lots of fish out there but nothing to bring home. We released lots of fish well under, one just under size, and then one that was about 90cm, so maybe 20lbs. Great night on the water and nice to see a big spring. All on hootchies from 90-160 feet, probably should start running plugs with the rest of you guys.

Out for night bite last night few hours. Got small one maybe 8lb I released. Got a big P cod LOL.

Lots on sounder holding right on bottom 175-200ft.
