Out this morning for 6 hrs,,,started off the bluffs to check out how many Coho were around, released 1 wild about 5 pounds and kept a hatch about 8 pounds. Fished with the end of the ebb current so we would end up at the spring tack at Otter around the change. Got their at the right time and landed a 13 pound spring. Stayed in on the beach and released 4 more wild Coho with a couple being in the 9-10 pound range and dropped another spring. The morning started a bit lumpy with the ebb up against the NW wind but flattened out to calm water after the change and was nice. Only a couple of other boats at Otter in close, more boats fishing further out for Coho.

I was just looking at coho regs. as of Oct 1st. Why has it changed now from what it was historically? 50% reduction from 1 and three. Now one and one as of Oct 1st..

You're right ,looks like it's changed this year

Finally got out on the water today, after three weeks on the beach (except for a trip in early Sept with Rockfish) due to persistent engine electrical/starting problems. Anyway it was a fabulous flat calm day, with bright sun and so there were quite a few boats at 500’ looking for coho in the morning so we headed out to join them. After about 40 minutes we got a hit on a spoon at 85’ but lost it close to the boat.

As the spoon was being lowered we got a hit on the pinkish/UV hootch on the other side at 61’ and boated a 7lb hatchery! A hatchery fish first go seemed pretty lucky but incredibly the next 3 fish were all hatchery. Never had more than two hatchery in row before. Biggest was 9.5lb.:)

We did have to wait 30-45 minutes between hits and the last hatchery came on a double header, half of which we lost so maybe we had 5 hatchery in a row! Who knows?

Finished up with a troll across the harbour mouth with herring but nothing doing there. Should have stayed way out because, at the dock, a guy said he had two chinook way out looking for coho with green hootchies There has been several posts about chinook way out in the Strait on this thread and it seems they are still there!!:D

Fished 8-12 off head in 500+. Took a couple hours but landed a nice 7 pound hatch to start. An hour later another hatch 4 pounds. No other hits. Great day and could only see 15 other boats almost had the place to ourselves. No wilds. Oh and shallow today 45 25. White hootchie and coho killer.

X2 for us-- same location, gear and results except we were fishing from noon til 3 pm.

Fished in 500ft off the harbor mouth today. 3 hatchery 6-8lbs, 1 smaller wild. The bite was an hour long for us just before tide change. Coho killers and Skinny G spoons between 50-80ft.
Beautiful and flat calm morning

Fished 7-12pm, 1 hatchery Coho 7lbs, lost a hatchery at the boat 5lbs trying to see adipose. Released 5 wild coho all between 5-10 lbs, lots of hits and shakers, off Beechy head 570ft of water. Magic numbers were 47ft and 75ft. Hot lures were AP Needle fish spoon, Mint Tulip Hootchie and 4" White Plug. Great day, Beautiful and calm.

Fished Saturday am from 8-11:30, in 400-500+ feet straight out from the head. Had only one good fish, lost just behind the boat before we could get a good look at the fin, and other than that, only a few shakers. Saw some other activity around us, but nothing to write home about. Cleaning table was empty when we came back in. Nice day on the water, lots of boats out.

Out yesterday afternoon for about 3 hrs with a buddy off the bluffs in over 500 ft of water. Brought home a bright 13 pound red Chinook, 7 pound Chum and an 8 pound clipped coho. Tossed back 4 more wild coho. All on anchovy from 50 to 70 ft.

Out for 7 hrs today starting just after 7am. Fished 400 to 540 feet off the bluffs. Kept 3 hatch to 9 pounds and a 7 pound pink. Tossed back 9 wild Coho to 12 pounds. 50 to 70 feet on bait was working. Slow and steady today no real big flurry of action.

"Yes" very confused and getting mixed info so looking for input from you all. I understand the regs as indicated above but, when looking at the website it states to check the current Fisheries Notices for updates. FN0484 says for Area 19 as of 1 Oct - 31 Dec the limit for Coho is 2 and one of which can be unmarked, for areas 20-3 to 20-7 the limit jumps to 4 coho and one of which can be unmarked....... am I wrong thinking I'll get to keep a wild in each area?

Hello Grizz80, Currently regulations are as of Oct 1 you can keep 1 Wild and 3 hatchery coho in Area 20. You can't keep a wild coho from each area. The Limit for salmon is 4. So how you get your 4 is up to you. Example if you got 1 Spring, 1 Pink, 1 Wild Coho, 1 Hatchery Coho in Area 20 you would be at limit. If you got 1 Wild Coho, 1 Hatchery Coho and 2 Springs you would be at limit. Each Species has their limit along with an aggregate total for salmon which is 4 total. You can't go to each Area and catch your limit in that area. The regulations for Area 20 Coho are still not updated as they have till Sept 30 midnight to post. I imagine they will keep it the same as years past which is 1 wild coho and 3 hatchery. But there has been discussion of 1 Wild and 1 hatchery only in Area 20. We will have to wait and see.

Yeah I saw you heading in yesterday. I had all of our luck in tight to secretary with no boats at all. released 5 wilds . Lost a few more. And then we lost a screamer that probably was spring or just one big wild coho. Later got one hatchery. It was pretty slow, but we need some more rain to really get things going. They are still on very small schools so you have to be in the right place. Everything was deep yesterday 100ft to 120ft.

Thank you for the reply. I understand currently per FN 0484 on 1 Oct only 4 fish total (1 unmarked) from area 20-5 and 2 fish total (1 unmarked) from 19-3, we'll be waiting for an update! Thanks again!!!!

Saw a commercial boat off secretary today with its net out. Anyone know what they would be fishing for?

Fished off of secretary today in 500 to 600 ft anywhere from 60 ft to 110 using green spatterback hoochies as well as spoons from white to cop car to green with the hoochie being the main choice of the many wild coho released today. Kept one small spring for dinner which also went for the spatterback. Fished from 915 thru 2 today as it was one fine day out there. Will wait now for Sunday for the wild ones..... Tried to book the month of August for next year at Pedder Bay only to find two spots open and they were the ones near the washrooms so if you are going to book there for next year I recommend you book now so you won' be disappointed
