Kept one Coho which when filleted at home the flesh took on the appearance of a parasitical salmon as shown on TV a week or so ago: mushy texture which looked like it had been 'tenderised' with a meat mallet. My wife and I decided to give it a miss.

Hey Blackmajic, there's a lady looking into this issue, her name is Alexandra Morton. She's the one person who's advocating for wild salmon and sportfishers.. Maybe you already know about her. I spent yesterday fishing english bay, all along the west van shoreline, the cap mouth, out in the big ships and the bell buoy. No hits for me.

Saw a few commercial boats out there in the middle of the bay, looked like gillnetters but I'm not sure. They were definitely hauling in fish. Anybody know what these guys were fishing for?

A buddy of mine was out this morning at T-10. He got his 2 nookies and went home.

Hey trendsetter,

definetly go fish the banana as it is known. great spring action can be had in there. Try from the T-10 area, can be very good this time of year, watch for the seals though.

let us know how it goes as we are off to bamfield for a week so won't have a chance to fish it till later....

He didn't brag so I assume they were not very big
I headed out yesterday afternoon. Started along the west Van side. Didn't see much at all and decided to move over to the QA for tide change (6:40 last night). Nice bait and fish on sounder. Nabbed one small chinook. Was only there 1 hour. Caught it at 83ft on a chovie, but fish seemed to be all over the depth range.

PS. Was anyone here the boat along west Van with 2 chick in white bikini's?? I bow down to you...lol

Yeah, then the slot limit is removed and it goes to 2 over 62cm.

They have so many restrictions in place that ythe field staff don't even know what is going on!
As I said in my post from friday night, the two officers we met at the ramp asked some questions that were kinda surprising, the one who was asking the questions, after she looked at the fish, went to talk with the other guy. My buddy asked her, what did you go and ask him and she said oh just something about the fish. Either it was an ID thing or a reg (slot Limit) thing. Still it was strange.
Either way, a 12 day slot limit is rediculous.

Anyone heading out after work today off the Cap? A buddy and I will be out in a smaller 16' Blue Prince Craft with a 40hp Yamaha. Hope the winds stay down till later. Left the bigger boat at home as it is a pain to take into work. The Subaru and the small boat works out great for Cap fishing. High slack is 7pm so going to give it a shot. Landed 1 - 7lb hatchery last Friday on a chovy. Meat was good. Not like the other report I read.

I disagree Getbent. I don't think it's ridiculous. What's really ridiculous is the native fishery....natives will be fishing the Fraser..and taking big springs. I have a guide buddy who was on the Fraser two years and watched a first nations net a pair in the upper 40 pound range and then promptly offer them to him for sale. You don't see double upper 40's get caught in FN nets on the Fraser too often. Now that's ridiculous!

Was out between the N.Arm & Bouy for about 40 minutes tonight, first time local in the 'old' boat seeing how things are with the boat.
Found a few things that need repairs, so off to the shop tomorrow.

Didn't find any fish, but beauftifully flat/sunny/hot.

Probably won't be on the local water for a while.

Fished the mouth of the cap last night for 4 hrs. Not a sniff. Marked a few fish but nothing biting. Talk to a few boat and also nothing. Creel surveyor at the launch said there was only 1 small Coho all day. Well, the fish live to die another day. Beutiful night on the water though. Seen a big Grady White with twin Yammi's come in for the possible night bite... Wonder if he got anything.

The Grady White (myself) got nothing during the 40 minute spin at the Cap other than 1 hit on a spoon at 19 ft. that didn't stick. I had spent a little over an hour at the Bell Buoy just before that with the same outcome ... one hit at 65 ft. on an anchovy when I first dropped the lines (right at the tide change).

All in all, a perfect night to be on the water though.

Left the doc at 1030 (nice to get back on the straight after a month away , fishing other areas) and got to the t10 and fished for an hour but no hits so pulled up the gear and headed to the harbour, started fishing area 28 when I got a hit, it was 59 ft down on my favorate coho killer. It was a nice 59cm hatch doe .
While I was putting her away my left down rigger ball ,then my right down rigger ball got hooked up on something. One was at 59 ft and the other at 89ft.
I was in a bind as all I could do is shut off the kicker in hopes of not catching it on the leg of the kicker.
I was being pushed further away from the snag with the tide, I had no choice but to cut the cables and take my losses but before I could do that the cable on the left spooled out and came off the downrigger and the cable on the right snapped. WHAT THE %^(&%&(^%.
I dont know what I snagged onto no visable crab traps (commercial or other)or logs (unless it was submerged) in the area and I was in the middle (a straight line from Pt Atk to Point Grey), dont know what it was but I noticed a brown (almost deisel ) slick on the water .
Has anyone lost their gear in this area lately ????
Back at the dock by 4pm and both downriggers respooled and good to go !

Not lately but something similar happened to a buddy of mine in the same area about 5 years ago-he's a ex commercial guy with all kinds of experience and could never figure out what happened or what he ran into.
