Thanks for the cedar plugs. I did try a red and white one for half a day sunday but no takes.
My three days went like this. Saturday morning, at the dock at 4 am start running out to the grounds. Get past the light and in the wet fog and 17kn SE wind decided to bail on that. Went back to the dock and slept in the boat for a couple of hours and did some bucktailing for cohos which was slow. NOTE TO SELF: Listen to the lighthouse weather before going. Lost myself a few hours of sleep on that one. Live and learn.
Sunday: Get out, lines in @7 am. No green water but temp is good and in the first half hour saw 4 schools of tuna jumping. Drove through them but only one nick in a Xrap blue mac. Fish jumping everywhere but no biting. My buddy in the other boat finds bitting fish and we narrow it down to the blue brush zuker. Get 9 fish one at time for 6 hours fishing. The water was green and not very clear. Pretty much fished the same squar kilometer for 4 hours and got all our fish. Lost an hour to a real bad weed infestation just after we both landed a couple of fish. Very frusterating. Could not keep the lines free of grass. Find clean water and start catching again.
Monday: Lines in at 730. First fish on after an hour. Lots of fish jumping. Fish chasing bait. Bait jumping along side our gear as if they though our lure where their school. Saw lots of stuff I had not seen before. No bites from jumping fish. An hour goes by, the fish stop jumping and start biting. Every time I see the tuna jumping they do not seem to bite. Hmmmm???
Fished the same area again and stuck to one squar km for most of the day. Again, no blue water but the water was much clearer today so I think that is very important. Some good bird watching today as well. If the fish are not bitting there is alwasy something else to watch that fascinates. Found a place in my system for a couple of exraps. We have been fishing them tight to the boat just under the propwash with the rods in holder pointed back and down to the water. this way those rods are righ out of the way. Fun stuff.
Also today were getting them on the green head blue skirt zuker but mostly the blue brush. Some of the fish we hooked up today were very very hot and ran very hard and long. all the fish were from 18 to 30 lbs. Sory no tuna **** to accompany report.
