kinda old. $500 for the whole boat motor trailer package. Has spark and compression but I never started it. I figured trailer and prop will get me my $500 back if I can’t make it run. Plus I could possibly use the controls for my kicker. It’s 1989 130hp oil injected. Opinions on these engines?
Thanks. Yep that’s one of the things I’d like to hear others experience with. I’ve always deleted the mixer and pre mixed my gas. But I’m hoping to hear that these particular engines have a decent injection system. The old Johnson I’m running right now is a bit of a smoker at low rpms. Not to mention about 50lbs heavier than this one according to the info I’m reading.
Props a beauty. A Michigan wheel 19p stainless that look brand new to me. Nut on the shaft is finger tight and the fellow said previous owner bought it and never used it but who knows. Not a scratch on it though.
Yamaha has the best oil injection on their motors, same system used for decades on tbeir 2 stroke bikes. Its a gear driven pump which pumps more oil as rpms go up. So it is always adjusting/variable oil mix instead of the OMC type 2 stage vacumn pump which either pumped at 50-1 or 100-1, no in between
A buddy of mine has the same engine. He had an oil alarm issue last month. Fixed with a $130.00 part.
He has had some rough running problems, but it all came down to dirty fuel.
Best investment ever is a spin-on fuel filter with a clear witness bowl & drain on the bottom. And... Ethanol free gas!
Parts seem to be readily available if they're needed.
Unless the boat is in need of major structural work, it looks like a bargain to me.
Sure looks like it'd go FAST!
I had a 1989 115 Yamaha which is the same 4 cylinder block. It was a great running engine during the time I owned it. Like all 2 stroke Yamaha’s they hate near freezing temps. The carbs ice up after running for a couple minutes. You have to keep the rpms down to slow the icing effect. It will richen up to the point that it will quit. Wait a few minutes to let the ice melt and start it again. Once the block gets enough heat to warm the intake and carbs the icing goes away.
Well, tomorrow I’ll pull the leg off and check the impeller. Then if it warms up any I might run a hose and try to start it and see what happens. Boat itself is pretty much toast. Hulls good but a limb fell on the bow and cracked the fibreglass up there. Looks like it might’ve been some kind of bass boat maybe? The regi is from Saskatchewan but that means nothing. There’s a nice bow mounted fuel tank and all the rigging that I’ll strip out and a 6 gallon plastic Yamaha tank I’ll use for my boat. Other than that there’s not much useful. No seats or anything, just steering, controls and guages. That’ll all come out if it runs good enough to swap over.
