I made my own VTS cable/switch for my f50. I didn't see the need to spend $300 for a switch. My analog tach works fine, no need to upgrade to the yamaha digital tach with the built in vts controls.
The switch works exactly as promised in neutral. By using the switch I can move the rpms in 50 rpm increments and control the range from roughly 600-1000rpm
As soon as I put it in gear, the switch no longer works. My first guess is that my throttle is adjust incorrectly. It is only supposed to be active when you are just barely in gear and maybe my throttle is adjust too far forward.
Anyone have any suggestions for where to start when I finally make time for this? I have the yamaha ydis cable and software so I can read any of the sensors. As far as I've heard, the engine just has to be warmed up and the shifter barely in gear for the switch to work. I was surprised it worked in neutral
Thanks!
