but new shop is too far in South Delta , new owner seemed kinda dis- interested in new customers ,brushed me off , said hes way to busy , booked up for 6 weeks ,
.............but Mike at PY Marine has always been great
to us in Port , see what happens here financially this year for me , who knows

for etec you could try huruna in van or nvan. lordship failed for me and tried jasen as was very happy with him
 
I replaced my old E-rude FICHT with a 4.2 l Yammie 250. 260 hours on her and not a single hiccup. For the size and weight of my 2300, it really is good on fuel. No complaints so far.

For E-tecs - Jason at Haruna is a good guy. Have a co-worker who put a 300 E-tec on his 23 Wellcraft and loves it. While it is quieter than the old E-rude DFI', I think it still has a noise level at cruise that is hard to talk over.
 
Yes the Yamaha V8's have the flywheel issue still, but even when the motor runs out of warranty Yamaha will replace for free. But that said who wantes the hassle. The pre 2013 4.2 300 Yams had issues something with only a 3 point main and thrush bearing issues. That's about as much as I understand re those earlier years after that they beefed up the crank mounting and the issue is no longer. My boats run new 300 yamis and have been bullet proof to date lots of jam and good on fuel. A plus about the 4 stroke suzy is they swing a larger prop so they have good torque out of the hole from what I hear. Guys that run Suzuki or Yamaha are happy it's hard to beat Japanese motors. The choice would be decided for me based on what dealer in your area will offer the best support and is nearest. Two strokes have a great sound when your on the throttle but once you get those oil jugs out of your boat you won't want them back. Expensive oil and another tank you have to fill. If you can give up a second or two out of the hole 4 stroke is they way to go. I was a huge two stroke advocate but after running 4 strokes I'm done with two strokes. But that's my preference for our application and there are other preferences out there as well :)
 
400 hrs on my 2017, so far so good? It is a thirsty thing. In my opinion, in order to get that HP out of the light block, pressures run hi, especially a cooler engine and out of the hole, dont like that. Yamaha still dominates the market if you look around Nootka Essperanza, so its a law of averages thing. They are all like BIC lighters.....Pick your favorite color and run it till it dies.
 
i think you will see alot of ETEC's running around this year and more and more every year. yammi are out there because of a great marketing strategy. they put them on boats at point of sale, you had no other choice if you wanted that hull.

Exactly......they bought more transoms than most mfg
Not saying they don't make good products but I don't believe they are any better than the others.
For the most part todays outboards are all great products

again , gonna stay away from the larger v8 yamis
they all make a pretty good product
it all really comes down to service , warranties are **** if your dealer is geographically not in your area ,
or in some cases , just way to busy , learned alot these past few weeks , i definitely have a good idea of
who NOT to go with ,

i would go with any , Suzuki Yami Mercury Verado ,
currently looking at a brand new 350 Merc Verado , any thoughts ?
anyone know of any issues on putting a 350 on a Seaswirl Striper 2301 ( max rated 300 hp )
weight is less than my twin 150's , i like cruising at lower rpm's
im sure my twin 2 strokes has more punch outta the hole than a single 4 stroke ,
not worried about transom strength , maybe insurance issues ?? liability ??

you will love the pull of that supercharged engine, i see it can now run regular fuel, and not premium like before. i love the performance and quietness of the verado
 
I would ask you insurance broker to have a rider on the insurance policy to confirm that the underwriter endorses the over horsepower beyond rated capacity. No matter what they tell you, policy underwriters will do EVERYTHING they can to limit their exposure.
 
One thing to keep in mind when thinking about a Verado they are heavy, use power steering which from what I have heard when running on a kicker that's tied to your main there's issues ( poor steering ). The other issue in my opinion is the motor is not naturally aspirated. I have had outboards with compressors etc and will never run an outboard with super chargers or air compressors when there are other good motors making the same HP that are naturally aspirated . It's fine I guess if your under warranty but if not it's a big expense if you cook a super charger.
 
With a 300 Yami on our boats which are heavy 24ft boats with a 17 pitch prop we can hit 46 mph trimmed up throttle down. Your 23 Seaswirl is lighter 350 is over kill plus you need to watch the weight with those verados on the back end. I wouldn't get much heavier than the stock motor weight or the back will sit deeper which sucks and unless you have tabs your going to loose low speed planning ability. A little extra weight is fine but if the stock motor was a 225 two stroke then you through a heavy Verado on the back that's a significant difference. A friend of mine has a 24 wellcraft center console and complains of those exact issues I just brought up. No tabs went to a Verado and now he has to be cooking or the as* end drops off plane now due to the extra weight.

The other weird thing about verado is they hang further off the back then other motors due to design so your stuffing the weight a little further out off the back.

Most of the guys I have spoke with seem to love there Verados , yes they are heavy around 680 pounds , but again lighter than my twins , i'm pretty sure the supercharged 300 will perform better at lower end then non-supercharged , guys I've spoken to have had no problems with there superchargers in almost 10 years and been super reliable with no major issues , my issue is exactly as you point out , the power steering ! I currently have two helm stations controlled with Seastar hydraulic steering , with a tie bar connecting my four stroke kicker to my mains when trolling, which takes me two seconds to connect and disconnect , all three motors steer at the same time which is absolutely phenomenal in the wind , I would like to keep my hydraulic steering with whatever motor i buy , I would like my kicker to connect back up to my single main , I was also told that the power steering on these motors draw 25 amps which sounds crazy , anyone have any experience of using hydraulic steering with Mercury Verado ,

i run mine without power steering with the seastar helm, tied to the kicker. just run the lines strait into the steering ram on the verado, i forget what fittings i used but they were from seastar
 
I will be stopping at M & P marine
Later today to see what we can do about the power steering , honestly I really don't need it , , I would rather maintain my hydraulic dual helm station , and lose that 25 amp draw on the power steering

Uki , I have currently got twin 150 Evinrudes , on the back , and I believe they weigh 420 pounds each and also a Yamaha four stroke kicker , I have been offshore with three guys all over 200 pounds with absolutely no issues, at times even back trolling keep our lines straight down , never been worried , putting on the 350 Verado would be almost 200 pounds lighter than what I currently have , so I shouldn't be worried about the weight ? And as far as the power goes I rarely use it all , Usually cruising at 3500 RPM ,

These would be my motor picks of choice for your boat and why.

300 Yami lightest 300 I believe and naturally aspirated no steering issues with kicker. Best resale boat and motor resale Yami has one of the biggest followings, plus you would have matching kicker and main.

300 Suzi great motor no issues with steering kicker

Twin 140 suzi's strong light motors no hole filling on back of your boat straight bolt on and no steering issues

Why not Verado sure supercharges may be okay most of the time but they are run by a belt with a life. I did my research with outboards phoning shops in Florida where mega hrs are stacked and told them I'm not buying a motor from them so no need to pitch there product. Yama and Suzi were rated the best with most hours with out issues. Many shops said comparing the Verado to a Jap motor is like comparing a Ford Escort to a Toyota Tercel one get 200 000K and is done the other gets 400 000K.

If you already got the motor I'm sure you will be happy, don't like to dog a brand but at the same time want a fellow angler to make the most educated decision.

a good friend just bought a brand new 24 weldcraft , he let me drive iton the wknd , exact same motor , was sold instantly , what a smooth quiet rocket , SWEET...
gonna beef up the transom with SS Plating , inside and out ,
might need to wear my hockey helmet first few outtings , but im sure it will be great
