Want a matching pair of rods and reels for lings and the occasional hali (dogfish).
If you see a pair, new or used on for a really good price let me know here.

I’d be happy to find a pair for $500.
I sold a wicked pair for that during my fire sale

Anyone running penn squall combo? They look good, just wondering if they hold up

Squall is ok. They are a budget reel but with some service I gave seen them run even with guides using them. I have some reels but no matching rids at this point. Pm if you want to chat.

They're fine, I ran them for years with no issues. Not the most enjoyable action but they get the job done.

I’ve been running squall 30 lever drags for a while now. No issues. Don’t buy the combo rod/reel, their rods are too heavy for jigging. Get a better rod. I’ve paired mine with a MH Admunson Sumo Savy jigging 6’6 jigging rod. Love the combo. The action on the trevala’s are too soft for my liking when I fish 14-18oz swim baits. Plenty of back bone but I like a faster action for jigging. The 30 class can handle big fish just fine. I brought up a 60lb hali just fine last summer. Ideally 40or50 size reel for halibut, and the 30 for ling cod. The bigger line capacity is nice with the 40. Get the lever drag, not the star drag.

I went with a small slow pitch style reel and really like having a lighter setup. I've ran TLD Shimano 2 speeds for years, but they are overkill for regular hali fishing and ling cod, but were fun for albacor and the 100lb hali I released back in the day. I went with a Okuma CAV-5II which I think they stopped making. The Pen Fathom II looks pretty good? 33 pounds of drag and the 2 speed is great for kids reeling up bottom fish. https://tyeemarine.ca/product/penn-fathom-ii-xn-lever-drag-2-speed-reel-in-canada/

I picked two WCFT light action jigging rods up from Cabelas for like $130 each last year, not sure if they have gone up or not.

Looking at a couple of the savvy sumo from HC as per @N2013 recommendation as well. Choices choices.

Those 330’s will work. Spill those with 50lb braid and you’re in business. $130 is a great price for the Sumo Savy at HC.
I picked up a pair of these rods online. Thanks amigo!

These are the reels I’m rocking. Fully serviced and ready to snag bottom over and over again.View attachment 114703
I have one of these. Fairly easy to perform a yearly service on. Has anyone put a longer handle on one? If so where did you get it? I put a longer handle on my Shimano Tld 20 and it makes it so much better imo.
