Windows XP help

So, some how, my computer downladed Windows XP System pack 3. ( I have no love for Vista and I cannot afford 7 as most of my stuff runs off the old XP just fine)

It is now asked me to registar the system. Problem is I do not have my product code anymore......too many moves and such.

I can only access Internet Explorer by asking the registration window to go the microsoft website, then bypassing it to access google....but that is all I get.

I do not have access to any drives or systems, other than Internet Explorer.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of the pack 3 or how I can clean this mess up and get back to what I had before.

Cheers

Did you attempt a system restore?
If not, click Start and type system restore in the box and then pick a restore prior to the installation of SP3.

Here is a product key for Windows XP Home Edition. Not sure if it's service pack 3 but give it a try. It's from my PC thats in the closet and won't be using it anymore.

There is no start, there is no access to any drives or anything, other than IE, and that was basic. There is no bottom of the screen with all the usual info on there.

Hey Ken,

Not sure if you have a desktop or laptop.....but your Windows license key may (should) be on a sticker on the back of the PC or underside of the laptop? I know on all my laptops it has always been on the underside.

Before entering a new product key,
I would try to find out whether the auto-hide option is not enabled for Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, follow these steps:
1.Press CRTL+ESC.
2.If the Start menu appears, right-click the Start menu, and then click Properties.
3.Click the Taskbar tab, clear the Auto-hide the taskbar check box, and then click OK.

It is a home built one and I did not put the sticker on the computer......

Kisinana

I will try that
