why do people fish

"Fising is largely an act of faith, a gesture to the luck and mystery that otherwise elude us during the more tedious and routine hours or our day. When we lower line, hook and bait into the dark unknown sea, we are engaged in an act of believing. The mere participation in such an act of uncertainty invigorates our spirits and allows us to surrender to the wisdom of the ages, nature, God or whatever we believe to hold such power. Quite simply, fishing is good for the soul."

that is why we fish.

I remember those brentwood bay clunker boats well, cheap as borsh and I use to rent them to go scuba diving in saanich inlet. Use to spearfish rock cod and ling cod with my hawaiian sling, Schools of cod were thick, if you didnt like the one in front of you, you just pushed it out of the way with the spear and picked one you liked.

Dove off one point down to the ledge at about 100' where it dropped straight down into the abis, there was more lead weight down there then you could carry back in your scuba bag.

Why do you fish?
To me that question is like the following
Q Why do you breath? A. Because I have to or I will die!!!
Q. Why do you sleep? A. IF I don't I get grumpy!!!
Q. Why do you meditate? A. Fishing is my meditation!!!
Q. Why do you eat? A. See first answer
If you really must know, I fish because it's a great time to reflect on many things. Its the beauty and grace of nature that makes me thankful for all that I have been given by (god or what ever you want to call the all father) It reminds me of the loved ones that I use to fish with (grandfathers) that are now gone. It's watching my 3-year-old niece experience fishing for the first time. It's the adrenalin when the fish hits. It's the frustration when they don't. It's the hunt for the good spot (the honey hole). It doesn't matter if I am fishing salt, lake or river. Knuckle buster, spinning, bate cast or fly reel, Trolling, Jigging, Mooching, Bobber or fly-fishing. Fishing is just that and I love it.

So why did you quit?

We also wouldn't know what to do with all the money! So before our wifes spend it on shoes or cosmetics we rather spend it on fishing gear / boats and other manly stuff, right? Because there we know the money is safely lost forever! :D

Why do I fish? Well, without fishing there would be no way to justify all the money and time I spend on our boat. I fish because my Dad took me fishing on the Chesapeake Bay every chance we had, and I want to be able to impart those experiences to my kids. That way they will want/need to have a boat and lots of gear so they can haul my decrepit 'ol but out on the water also.;)
