why do people fish

Because they won't let me carry a gun to go hunting anymore.
(just kidding, you're all safe.)
The real question is which came first: the fish or the fisherman.

I think some of the rush in fishing is gambling addiction. You just never know when that big hit might come, and that uncertainty makes you want it more....just one more pass, just one more day, because the only certainty is you won't catch that fish of your life if you don't have gear in the water.

[a motivational psychology study on rats showed that if a rat pushes a lever once and gets a pellet, they will eat until full and then stop. If they get a pellet for every 10 pushes, same, they'll push the lever enough to get full. But if they randomly give a pellet, sometimes every push, sometimes every 10th, sometimes every 100th, then some rats will frantically push the lever non-stop, even if they aren't hungry and instead of sleeping or doing other normal rat things....sound familiar? ;)]

But yeah, being out on the water, being away from busy life, and drinking beer at normally inappropriate hours all contribute to the fun too.

Best bet is to have happyretirees attitude, that just being out there is the goal and a reward in itself, and catching a fish is a bonus...otherwise you can get jaded and bitter when things are slow.

Two words-Smoked salmon! No wait... three words-fish and chips!
yeah,hold on...four words-get away from wife!
Oh crap,I think I can find a million words to describe why I fish, and to each his own.
Number one, above all,is to share time with friends on the water and create the memories that we'll all talk about when we're old.

For me to solve all world problems !!!!!!!for me fishing is to get away from the day to day hectic lifestyles damn hard now think back say 20 years ago. you would chat to as far as a CB on channel 13 could go!!!! we fished with a hand crank downrigger, 2 lb weight on the other, both were peetz rods and reels outfitted with the best 80 lb test mono or steel line, red, clear.green anchovie head that was it abe & al flasher or a palco dodger.

Bucktailing in saanich inlet for big coho and chum with my father in a rental brentwood bay clunker boat with a briggs and stratton engine, by the end of the day you were half deaf, and cant forget deep sixs and planer boards.

So you ask why we fish its because we remember the good times and the things we remember like the above stated,I know the Younger crowd is wondering what the hell is that gear LOL LOL

It wasnt that long ago!!!!!!!!

Good times Wolf
