Where to Cut firewood in Victoria/Sooke?

I'm looking to find Crown or other land where I can cut firewood for personal use in the Victoria/Sooke areas, but when I look at the BC Forest MInistry site, it indicates the only open spot on the Island is near Port Alberni. Can that be right? Any information anyone can provide on closer options, perhaps on forestry land that companies (Western Forestry?) open up for firewood cutting, would be welcome. Thanks.

our government sold off all our land to the logging companies years ago on the south island. lots of timberwest land. gates are just being unlocked for hunting season and now fire seaon is supposedly dying down. best best would prob be shawnigan and lots of logging up there. tons on backside of cowichan. You have to go buy a license and go in a designated area if you want to be legit about it.

If you do get a permit.... I believe its around 20-40 bucks depending on the truck.

Its nice... The trees are laid out for you up Butler Mn.

Pretty sure the guy at the gate will give you hand shake 20 loads ;)

Take a good saw..

I was up past Jordan river a few weeks ago, (Labor day Monday) Five min. past Jordan river, right near China Creek I think it is, you turn right onto the logging road and two minutes in there is active logging on both sides of the logging road it looked like they are cleaning up after the cut and have gathered together huge piles of wood, branches ect.. with excavators... many piles are right beside the logging road. When we drove past there were two pick up trucks loading up fire wood! One truck had a trailer to and they were loading that up as well. They had there chain saws and what not... looked to be nice fire wood! Might still be there, worth a look for sure.

Thanks all, I'll definitely go explore a little, and spoke with Timberwest today. Once the rain returns, their sites will open again. Cheers!
