What's your Dad's hobby ?

Mine is as passionate for golf as I am for fishing....
He's going on 84 years old and still golfs 18 holes 3 times a week.
Took him fishing once, he didn't get it....
:)

Wen he was alive it was fishing on the salt. Always had a boat @ Westview marina in Powell River.
And yes I got to fish the Georgia straight back in "The Good Old Days"

My dad's been gone for 7 years. His hobby was the same as mine--fishing. He had me trolling with him off Miracle Beach by age 5 and fly fishing by age 11. Good times and when I'm fishing certain areas, I always think of him. He loved fishing Church Rock and his standing joke with my mom when she would nag him to accompany her to church on a Sunday was, "But dear--I've already been to Church twice this week!"

Dads passion was his kids and fishing. He was always taking us along since we were small and always made it fun. Hopefully i am able to do half the job that he did with my own daughter so that she loves nature and fishing as well. I still miss those times 20yrs later.

trolling for trout on slocan lake; my job at 4 years old was; to hold the rod til one bit; trout fishing was the way of life for him

His was Golf, which shocked the family as he used to make stupid comments about it when on TV, He also loved playing slow pitch, contruction projects and driving my mom nuts......

When I was growing up, we lived out on the beach at Otter Point and we would head off the beach and chase fish, no matter what they were; coho, springs, pinks or ling, they all ended up in either the canner or freezer. He instilled a passion in me that I hope never goes away. Thanks Dad

Sadly we lost him in late Aug to a massive heart attack after his team he plays for had just won the gold medal at the senior games for slowpitch. I was luck enough to get to wet a line with him this spring and he bagged a nice 30 lbs hali, will never forget his smile........

Cheers

still kicking in his early 70's....loves his cigarettes and newspapers, not much else, other than being a pain at the shop, but that's just to get away from chores with the wife! lol

My dads hobby is fishing.... his favourite probably being river fly fishing in NZ. I don't think he would be the least bit excited if he was given a free round at Augusta National, he wouldnt even know that its a golf course.

My Dad never did understand my passion for fishing or hunting.... and to him going for a hike in the woods was a waste of time. he preferred screaming his lungs out at a hockey game! But he sure loved chowing down on fish and game... but i think he would have preferred it to come from Safeway, wrapped in cellophane. But to his credit, he went out of his way when I was a kid to accommodate my fishing .... even helped me poach a whole bunch of yellow perch in the closed area at Lac du Bonnet in Manitoba! Hey-- regulations??? What were they in the 50s LOL

My Dad is in his 70's. He likes to hunt and fish. His hunting partner has been hunting with him since I can remember and he will say that my Dad fires 3 bullets a year. One to sight his rifle in, one moose and one buck. My thing with my Dad is Toqourt and fishing. We camp next to each other for the season and fish together too. He doesn't ever want to get up early though. He takes my wife and her girl friends out for an evening fish in his 1979 18' bayliner every year and that is a real highlight for him. It must add up to 3 or 4 trips for him.

The old man never "got" my fishing thing. He would stay at camp and cook for us, then go fling a spoon at a tree limb 4' from shore and get the biggest fish of the day. He was keyed in on hunting though, him and his parker-hale safari dropped anything it was pointed at. Miss him, but spent today with mom fishing and tooling about around In his "home away from home", PV/mex. great day, just wish the bugger was still around.

My dad is a gardening nut. Grew up on a dairy farm so I guess it's in his blood. He feeds half the damn town with the stuff that comes out of his yard. I completely missed out on the gardening thing though, and he figured that out early on - made me do yard work as punishment when I did jackass teenage stuff. The priceless gift he gave me though, was a love of the outdoors and the desire to keep the wild places wild. Although not at all a hunter and only a very occasional fisherman, he got us boys out in the bush at every available opportunity, hiking and climbing, generally exploring. He knew the names of all the trees and flowers and passed on a lot of that to us. He is still super observant, can take 10-15 minutes to walk a hundred yards because he finds so much to stop look at. Will see holes chewed in leaves and go looking for the caterpillar that is doing it, then odentify what butterfly or moth that one will become. No formal science training but the guy could write books.

my Dad was an absolute fishing nut when I was a kid. He couldn't sleep the night before heading out. Then the ECVI coho vanished in the early 90's and he gave up and sold his boat. Now I get him out to Bamfield a couple times a year.
His hobby now is biking...he rode his bike to work every day for 30 years, no matter what the weather...a couple years ago he hopped on his bike in Victoria and rode to Newfoundland. Him and my mom have ridden all over Europe.
He's 68.

Stepfather 1- collecting tools and building things
Stepfather 2- drinking, hunting, drinking, fishing, drinking

It's may or may not be related, but I enjoy fishing alone.

Holy fak, I'm old enough to be your dad. Is that why you call me sir?

I was just kidding about fishing alone. Share your passion for the outdoors with those you care about, regardless of who they are married to. LOL. I find fishing recharges the spirit. It's like that quote: God does not deduct the time spent fishing from one's life.
