What's the best magazine?

Hey everyone,

I want subscribe my old man to some fishing/hunting magazines. Any recommendations?

Thanks.

LOL got me thinking it hasn't been invented yet. I would title the best magazine "Fishing Forum" BY Penthouse. I would buy a subscription to that one.

Bc outdoors sucks. It's thin and mostly ads. Nothing like the old issues my grand father had.

I would never subscribe to the one that calls people about their craigslist ads and tries to sell them ad space. Had this call about my truck and some of my buddies have had the same experience.

BC Outdoors... or Salmon, trout, Steelheader... ;)

Agree that these two are full of ads. BC Outdoors is just OK simply because of the BC content but the themes for the stories seem to be recycled from years past. My father in law has every issue since they started.

BC Outdoors used to be a great Hunting/Fishing all in one publication. Then they came up with the hairbrained idea to split the two factions into two separate issues and distance the fishermen from the hunting fraternity; likely a business decision to increase revenue. Bad idea and I think it backfired.

Used to subscribe to BC Outdoors back in the late 70's & 80's and have been published by them 3 times; frankly, I could care less if I ever read another issue, they've gutted the thing in favor of advertising revenue and it hasn't been the same since.

Sadly it's the owners of BCOD that control the content level. The editor is unable to add some of the things that should be there.
This is fact. I still enjoy the magazine though. I still have issues too that were my grandparents. I miss some of the content as well.

From what i understand It's that big fella Mike Mitchell that controls the content. I voiced my displeasure at the magazine on the BCO forum. I have a 2 year subscription I wish I didn't have.

Isn't it ironic that we have some of if not the best hunting and fishing in the world and yet there is not a good magazine being published in regards to this? I think they need to hire some different folks at BCO and get the magazine back on track. I agree it should be all in one again and it could have twice as much content with all the hunting and fishing this province offers.

No. Mike has no control over the hunting portion. He actually tried to bring it back and was told no. He sympathizes.

As far as I am concerned they whored themselves out to the DFO and now turn tricks with anyone for a dollar and they do not have the sportsman's welfare in mind. They should be kicking the DFO in the pants at every publication.

had a subscription to BCO for years, but got tired of the lack of content. Too bad really it was a great magazine many years ago, but it has lost its edge and the subscriber freefall shows it.

Just curious if any of you submit content / articles / advice / stories to BC Outdoors?. They're a pretty open magazine about content from readers, and it would probably help them oodles to fill their magazines if you'd all tell your stories, and give advice. Overall it would probably be a great magazine if people took the time to do that. When magazines rely on content from people actually doing the fishing, and no one takes the time to submit anything of course there'd be lack of content. Just a thought is all. Want a better magazine? Take the time to share your stories!

Why do you need a magazine to read ? ..You have theses forums , way better reading ,you get all the local reports , tackle tips, and lots of laughs ... and oh ya most important of all , you get Holmes ... what more can you ask for ?

I don't know why, but I am particular to magazines. Good reference material, and I'm not a fan of hightech carrying a smart phone everywhere I go. I like reading stories, and articles, and learning things from other's experiences. Even if I read the forums I still enjoy magazines too.
