Im running a Humminbird 561 wide scan model but looking to eventually upgrade to their GPS models, what is everyone else running out there? Had a lowrance x67c in my last boat and loved it for a small color finder.

In my canoe I run a Garmin Echo 301DV, and my runs a Garmin Echo 551DV in his boat. If you are fishing in less than 100 feet of water the downvu is amazing, but the black and white versions are trash. I use it for targeting bottom fish.

like the options sounds like there is a decent range of units out there, Salmon Seeker how is the 788i? only reason I ask is to swap out from a humminbird is always a Pain in the A$$ lol Im thinking of searching ebay and picking up a head unit only for mine.

I have a humminbird 1159. I really like it. Don't buy into the touch screen hype. When your hands have fish blood, scales, salt water etc on them it makes a big mess of your screen.

If you're on a tight budget the humminbird 859 is good bang for the buck.

I like the 788, but i dont have any experience with other units. The screen is fairly large and bright, functions are easy to use. internal gps and a card with charts really help navigating. they have a new version of the 788 now with down imaging, it looks pretty neat. when i first got the unit it had some kind of bug in it that caused the depth readout to randomly go to less than 5 feet for a random amount of time (5 to 30 mins). i thought this was a problem with the transducer so i replaced that but the problem persisted. i eventually learned that i needed to go to humminbirds website and download a software update and load it onto the unit. once i did that, problem solved, its worked perfectly ever since. another thing i dont like is the transducer mounting bracket is really weak. it would allow vibrations that would cause loss of or inaccurate depth readings. eventually i made my own bracket and its much stronger. now the readings are more crisp and it even picks up depth while cruising.

sweet ill have to look into the 788i, my 561 does that random depth loss as well go from 300ft to 5ft have to turn off my head unit and turn it back on to get it back. Ive contacted humminbird to see about it hopefully they can update the firmware in it as well...

hds12 touch .. and HDS 10 ... Still figuring these things out but there great , I love the touch it's nice while moving .

I use a 6 year old Lowrance LCX 28 HD. With the navionics chip the gps is very clear and uncluttered. I also like the clean depth screen. I find a lot of the new units very cluttered and a lot of hash on the fish finder. I tell myself I should upgrade but I can't find anything I like better.

I use the Lowrance 9" Gen 2 Touch and love it. The sidescan and downscan are amazing for locating bait. I also map my own maps with Insight Genesis. It's super accurate that way.

I have a Garmin GPSMap 527XS. I love it. It has a chirp dual frequency transducer, the chartplotter updates 10 times a second and works flawlessly. The sonar is very sensitive and it is very user friendly.

standard horizon, cp390i? 7" screen.... its great as long as you dont mind thinking its 450 ft deep when your downrigger balls are bouncing on the bottom with 111ft on the scotty counter

Simrad NSS 9 evo 2 with Airmar TM 260 transducer. Also have the down scan ducer but haven's played with that enough to comment on it. Nice thing about the evo2 is even thou its a touch screen you can still use the buttons when your hands are covered in fish scales etc and you don't mess up the screen.
I used to have an old Lowrance LCX-15 MT that never gave me a problem and was simple to use so when i went with the new boat i figured i would stick with the Navico product line. Very user friendly, was easy to install. I did have a power pack go after three weeks of use but it was replaced over the counter no questions asked.

I have the lowrance hdi 5 elite and it works awesome with stock transducer down to 400 feet, it tracks bottom till 800 feet. The downscan imagine is pretty cool and it all works well at 40 mph with the ultra fast ping speed.

When I bought it, it came with navionics maps, and they updated me to navionics plus for free, so I can load maps of anywhere in the world I want to fish

If I was to buy it again I would go with the 7" screen. The 5" screen is fine but I usually only have it on one screen or another. With 3 screens up the 5" is just to small.
