Whats a do you think is a better boat, and what are they worth approximately?
1998 22' W/A Trophy
1994 24' W/A Mckee Craft

To fish or not to fish,
What a stupid question!
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish, and he will sit on a boat drinking beer for a life time :D

I have a 02 Trophy and find it great for my needs. U.S marine took over bayliner around 98 i think and changed the whole boat around. Trophy got a bad rap from there older hull design pounding and bouncing in the snottier stuff and they did. but after being in both they are drastically improved. The cuddy is alot roomier than the seaswirls and wellcrafts.Just my two bits.

A buddy of mine has a 20' Trophy 199? Every time we go fishing on it we call it the kidney slammer. Bad hull V, it slams hard in the chop and swells.... I put my knee out ever time we go off shore..!

Maddog I forgot your boat was a BAIL-LINER LOL

Sweeet :P thanks. now i have 2 more things! :P
1) didnt trophy get a new hull design whenthey were taken over sometime in '98? (or so ive heard)
2) My dad granted me a week fishing trip next summer. I chose renfrew from the 6-13 i think (sat-sat) never fished the west coast. Will it be easy to pick up a boat laod of fish at this time, and how far in advance do you need to reserve a campground (should we stay at the marina or other campground) and is there a dock we can stay at atthe other campground.? Also, anything special we should be aware of/know for renfrew? thanks

Ya ,my boat sucks...Im movin into a Grady. LOL When is the winter spring derb??? Hey uncle Roy ??? Blue skys, maybe borrow a ball or two!!! Get The red ballon and Paul out, maybe Vinnie and Bags ???

Your right the Rock, i too have experienced the knee thrashing of the older trophy. I find the ride of my boat, very smooth entry and no pounding offshore at a comfortable 24- 26 mph...The ride is very close to my uncles 23 Striper. Nothing like a 25 Bertram though.

Against the flow of the conversation, I love my 20ft Trophy WA. I've had it for 13 years now (since it was new), and the only poor thing that it had from the start was a Force 120. I have had a 140 Johnson 4 stroke on it for 3 years now, and couldn't be happier with it on the Trophy. As far as the pound in chop, I don't find it that bad. I run offshore alot, and think the hull performs great, although I don't run as fast as 24-26 kn in heavy chop.

The only major thing that I have planned for it is to put a hard top on this winter.

Just another person's opinion that I hope helps you out.

I bought a 28 Grady Marlin down south and refurbished it for fishing here. Took off the tower and outriggers and spent alot cleaning it up. Added canvas to the hardtop, downriggers and a kicker. What is great is the hull. It is heavy and rides really well in heavier seas. I've put waves over the hardtop going fast in 6' seas just to see what it would take. Not a shudder or a jolt. Pretty rocky in a beam sea at anchor or going slow. Expensive, but I don't mind putting money into because it will last forever.

Yea i dont think you can get anything better than a Grady. I have a 25' Sailfish. You took your tower off? I want to put one on! :P They definetly are the kings of the sea, no matter the weather. The reason i was asking is that a frind of mine is wanting to bring one up from the states, and i told him ide ask around to see what has the better name up here.

I would stay away from Trophy - a Bayliner by another name - crap boat.

I think I recall someone touting McKee craft in the same league as Boston Whaler - might be worth investigating. Others I have had good experience with and/or see alot of good press about are Parker, Grady-White, Cape Horn, Orca, SeaSport, Whaler. Check out www.thehulltruth.com for insights on quality hulls and other useful stuff. As well, www.yatchworld.com and www.boattraderonline.com for used boat listings.

Lot of good buys can be found on eastern and gulf coasts of USA and I have a excellent guy to transport it to you home port from anywhere in USA.

Personally I went with Grady for quality and un-sinkable traits. Another resource is www.greatgrady.com. I picked up a 1997 25ft Grady for USD 37,000.00 including tranport from eastcoast to Oregon. Sweet boat with Raymarine full package including 24mn Radar, 10" color gps and finder. Total time on boat/motor - 130 hrs. Hard to beat a deal like those found where there are lot of good used boats on the market.

Look at me , look at me, I have a grady !!! Not all of us can be running the rich and famous Grady there budz. Im not saying trophy is in the same League as a Grady, however you don't need to run your mouth off about it. I may be into a Osprey or a grady one day too ? I won't stoop down and stomp out the little guy who is perfectly happy in his 16 foot whatever. I hate the im better than you because my boat is attitude !!!

????...Trophy Owner?

Glad to see your luck was/is better than mine with the brand. I owned one and was not so happy - ergo the opinion. The "little man"?...please. The word is you are in the market for an Orca - damn sight more expensive than some old Grady. As well, kind of a un-professional reply for someone who has a public presence ie..Tailspin Charters.

Justin, I am not sure about yours, but in my business you never know who you are talking to and how much money you may be costing yourself with that kind of an approach.

There is no need for a superfluous debate here. I may have been retort in response, however i don't think it's necessary to be contravening towards Trophy owners. As you may know, there are more than a few of them on the water as well as on this Forum to be using the derogatory terms as you mentioned above. We are all entitled to an opinon based on past experiences or needs. You had a bad experience and others may have a good one. Remember we are all in the same pond doing what counts, Fishing.

We are all entittled to an opinon based on past experiences or needs. Clearly you have stated yours.

Now as far as professionalism and public presence; I am not to concerned about my approach causing destitution to myself while simply standing up for fellow fisherman and whatever craft they may be out in.

M.D Out.
