Hey all, I just managed to get my Dad a spanking new MR2.
Now it came "unloaded" and I wanted to get some line put on it here in Calgary as our trip out to Prince Rupert will not allow the time to stop.

Can someone please recomend a proper line? I also understand it I will need some backing.

Thanks

30 lb Maxima Ultra Green for me as well. Has done well for the springs and hali on the troll.

25 pound triline Big Game, Never had an issue with it. and 30 maxima for leader ( though the past few trips i have found the maxima to be weaker then usual, maybe a faulty spool.

25 lb Maxima Ultra Green mainline. 25 lb Maxima Ultra Green for any bait when fishing with a flasher, 25 lb for Max UG for spoons, 40 lb Max UG for hoochies, sometimes 15lb Max UG when fishing bait without a flasher.

25lb Maxima ultra green, 40lb big game leader

40lb leader minimum.

I find it to be personal preferance, i lost a few nice fish due to minor nicks in the main line while running 20 pound so i moved up to 25, just for insurance. Very nice catches BTW! Also i just upgraded reels maybe i might try 20 pound again!

When you have to fish in a weekend crowd of boats it is often necessary to be able to add extra brakes to keep your fish from being run over and chopped off. Otherwise I would agree with lighter line being ok. I've used 8lb test with the super release dodger and have never broke the 8lb line. I only fished that setup when the boats were few and far between. Largest on 8lb was 38 pounds.

Unless of course youre using it every day.. And believe me, lighter lines dont last. I run 30-35lb main all summer every day, sometimes I peel off 50 feet. I use to run 40 main but you dont get enough linear feet.
