What brands do you guys like for leaderline? Last season, I ran 40 lb Maxima for an all purpose sort of line, mostly anchovies, and it was great. That said, it's a little expensive. Any suggestions?
I second Seaguar, it's pricy, but it's a lot cheaper then busting off teasers and spoons. I'd say you get triple the milage out of it compared to your standard issue Trilene or something like that.
I'm satisfied with the 40 pound Maxima, but rather than buy it in the small (and expensive) 'leader' packages, I take an old line spool into the tackle shop and they load it up with 50 or 60 yards off the bulk reel. A lot cheaper way to do it.
Fairly true CS. Just run your hand along it after every fish, feel a nick, change er up. there is an awesome website that did tests of every type of major leader line for strength and durability...i'll try to find it again and post it on here...
the higher knot strength is nice too, make sure you get it nice and wet when your tying your gear I tighten my knots in my mouth to keep the friction down needs a little more lube than mono, I think the stiffer leader gives the gear better presentation and it's tough you can catch hog after hog on the same leader it doesn't stretch and weaken like mono. probably shouldn't jinx myself but I've never had a leader break in 4 years
