What happened to all the money?

I'll only comment at this point to the fact you found it odd that local salmon projects were mentioned in press releases. Would it not be more odd to say it was going to one specific group if that was not the intent. There are more than a few worthy current projects on going in Sooke right now. All deserve support and funding. The derby committee at that time wanted to keep those options open.

Pro fisher you said that $ 6000 went to a local project and yes they are all worthy I just wanted to know which one. I think that is a simple request Thanks:D:D

When Matt was still in charge he told me that $6,000 was going into the small sea pen that the marina would have in place. As I'm no longer involved as an organized (can't fish the derby and help run it too) I don't have any specifics on those expenses. Moorage space is obviously a component. Listen guys personally I have no concerns over money left over not going to a donation. I'm 100% confident there was very little left over. The first year costs never go exactly as planned. There is no dirt here to dig up. However, I like the rest of you will be watching what happens this year. I gave the resort the concept for the tournament and the donation was the #2 priority component of the event. If the donation component isn't fulfilled I will distance myself from the event and will not support it.

Even if there was only a couple of thousand dollars profit why didn’t they just donate it, There must be accounting room for some sort of donation by the marina They could pay for the feed for the fry, its only $1400. In lieu of promotion fees or something like that unless of course they thought that making profit was part of their derby. I didn’t think that you were allowed to make any profit unless you have a gaming license like bingo or a raffle Hmmm something to check into They need a separate accountant for the derby so there would be a degree of transparency and if they said they made 0 we might have a reason to believe them Mid November the Monday after Jock Smiths funeral Matt said there was about $12000 but you would have to put a proposal together and apply for it (stall) then another 4 months passed then $7500 then $6000 Now ? This is the reason for the digging It appears the longer they have the money the less it gets If they waited long enough people would just forget the money altogether None of this BS would have happened if they had made been straight forward early on I guess the marina wanted to sell their tickets first
Sorry to all others for the past and present rants on this issue It not the derby but the actions of it directors it just drives me crazy they seem to be acting like the Government taking salmon stamp money and putting it into general coffers

Once again I have has my cub reporter hat on and upon further checking, learning more than one man needs to know about derbies
Only the rules of business apply
They are only legally bound by their advertising such as prizes as announced, meals, whatever
I guess in the end of this story,It's about their money.....:(
The transportaion cost and the feed for the fry is being paid for by the Nitnat Hatchery:D

After reading this entire topic and my file again I would like to say that it was never my intent to include Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society in this rant and for this I am sorry (the post that was deleted by the moderator only, the rest I still mean )I just wanted the derby to make a donation to a local salmon enhancement project after the derby was over in an amount that was in keeping with the gross $ like they said. I still feel that some how the salmon were cheated
I have always donated a prize and supported SSES But I will contact them and do some community service time for my transgression( if they will have me)LOL
conserve your catch
