What Did You Do To Your Boat This Week?

No. My shiny new 300 Seapro has full warranty as registered with mercury for pleasure use which is 7 years with the current promo. Simply needs to be registered in your name by march 31 2026 to qualify.
That’s decent! Curios if they put a cap on hrs? Suzuki only gives me 3 years or 900 hrs, I hr out during in august of the 3rd year.

If it's registered for pleasure use you get the 7 yr warranty (current promo) . If it's registered for commercial use the 7 yr warranty doesn't take effect. Commercial high hour use is 2 yr warranty. If its registered as pleasure and you take it in for warranty work with high hour use you may run into issues. I believe that's what Aquaholic is referring to.

I've bought and paid for mine but haven't seen any fine print, the merc promo section on mercurymarine.com for canada doesnt scream any limits on hours that I have seen. Same with the new prokicker I bought too for my IO delete project.

Im too soft to put more than 150 to 200 hours on the main a season, and I definitely won't have the cycles for the next few years to be over a 100 a season with other commitments but I'm sure gonna try.

I think if you register under a 13kxxxxx and then explode it down the line outside the base 2/3 year warranty term presenting a hull with cxxxxxxx splashed down the side then you might have some 'splainin to do.

Come to think of it mine has been registered and they don't have the 13kxxxxx reg number as the boat is waiting for canvas...see where this lands.

Fair enough. I register as commercial, hence the reduced warranty. Breakers has been good to me over the years, think they shave around $3500 off the purchase price opposed to pleasure. Most issues are found in the first season ime, although my last rig the low pressure pump went the following spring after warranty was up. I tried a pro kicker last time, 3 seasons and she popped. Was making oil like crazy after 1 season, resorted to more frequent oil changes but then ended up with water intrusion into the crankcase. She done, went back to a yammie for trolling. I’ve heard that a higher temp thermostat helps the pro kickers, something about running too cool in our waters.

Thanks for the tip...i still have my 10 year old yamaha 9.9 which has been rock solid for me. I figured it would be best to have one brand across the transom for servicing although that certainly wasn't the case ever before. Ill keep an eye on the merc...

Me too, I run over to Nanaimo to get them to service my Suzukis. A good mechanic who you can relate to, get along with, and trust is a valuable and much cherished commodity.

Our experience riding motorcycles in 24 countries and needing on ocassion the services of a honest and competent motorcycle mechanic taught me some very good lessons. It doesn't matter the size of the shop, I always want to see how it looks.

If things start to look bad from the get-go they won't ever get better.

Call a tow truck and immediately move your bike to another shop even if it is 100 kilometres away.

We only had one bad experience. I was pretty sure we needed a new clutch and the shop in Germany was telling me they had to pull the engine and crack the cases because the pistons were scored and needed to be replaced. They refused to let me see my bike or talk to the tech or walk into the shop. I had them roll the bike out and it still started.

We managed to get to Venice and board a ferry and when we arrived in Greece we found an amazing shop. Old but spotlessly clean. The owner had a friend pick up a new clutch assembly in Athens and bring it to Patros.

On another trip we had had a long day and when you go from Northern Italy to Southern Italy the pumps change colour . We had been really moving trying to get to Rome that day and I didn't really pay much attention when I went to fill up.

What that means is the hi test pump colour is now the diesel pump and vice versa.

The bike went about 20 feet, made a horrible sound like an engine vomiting and stopped dead. I had a big tank on the bike and i had just put nealry 30 litres of diesel into the tank. I gave the station manager some euros and we pushed the bike to where I could drain the tanks and I cleaned the plugs, but no joy, It was time for road service , The KTM has about 514 fuel filters and I had buggered everyone of them up.

Everyone was terriffic , the tow truck guy just kept our bike on his bed overnight, the guys at the dealership were superb the next day . I had a KTM tech I knew in the states up on email and we were emailing and google translate was doing its thing back and forth .Now you always need to carry cash . It keeps the good guys happy and when you are on a 6 week ride you don't want to be stuck waiting around. A good shop will always step up for tourists, and a decent tip after the service is the best thing you can do to set the stage for the next traveller

The sales guy even brought my wife fresh biscoti that his wife had made.that morning,

He drove us to and picked us up at an amazing Italian restaurant for lunch . He introduced us to the Maitre'd who was from the Bronx . The Restaurant was filled with lots of men dressed in expensive suits from central casting and some were taking their "nieces"out for lunch .

It was right out of the Godfather.

Anyone have ideas on how to get ride of black spots on my oars?
I scraped off the old varnish over the spring break. I've heard of light bleach and water to get rid of them, or I could sand witch means months more work.
Boating season is upon us, well for me anyways, and I wanna get this project done.

I cleaned some rough fir beams for a super clean varnish shine finish with bleach and tps. Worked great, the other product that takes the black mildew off organics is spray nine. Think I used Barkeepers friend once which is oxalic acid maybe?

Have you ever seen wood after it has been sandblasted? It looks interesting. The first time I saw it was at a restoration on a house that had a fire, some of the beams were burnt a bit but still good so they sandblasted them on site. Left a really neat finish. Looks like you might have some delamination starting where the pieces go together.

I'm sorry to say it but for 29 bucks you can have a new one.

I put wood glue in there the best I could and clamped them for the day on Friday.

We do have a sand blaster here at work, but it looks small. What kind of neat finish did those beams have. Nothing wrong with a unique boat.
Heck, I even have a figerhead on mine. 😄
