The flipped air cleaner cover gave many a smile back then.youāre right, flashback to high school and the whistle of a throttle body spacer on my ā91 Sierra and the flipped air filter cover.

Looking for some advice
18' boat has this extended pod.
2022 yamaha 9.9 mounted on that welded aluminum bracket bit.
It drags in the water (prop) when fully trimmed up and the transom mount piece that projects down. I want to raise it up so it sits out of the water while trimmed up.
Can I remove it, drill new holes higher up (probably 2" would do the trick)? Does it need to be perched resting on the top of that bracket - I assume thats ideal.
I'd rather not use one of those pivoting kicker brackets as I use a bar to connect it to the main for steering while trolling on it.
Appreciate any help/advice.

Well the verdict is in, ran thru a little over a full tank of gas (350L) got a pretty good idea how it performs.
-2.7mpg average, was 2.4mpg (12% better)
-Hole shot just a bit worse but still ample
-dropped a good 400RPM at any given cruising speed, 30 knots at 3800 (was 4200rpm)
-doesnāt rev up to full RPMās as expected but top speed still improved slightly. 44 knots at 5300RPM. (Was 42.5 knots at 5900)

Overall Iām happy with it.

If they only made a propeller with a 1 inch pitch difference, youād be right in the middle. Better hole shot, and be in the power range a bit more but still better mileage.

I agree, and they actually do make an Eco 16x18P and that was my instinct but dealer recommended all along was the Eco 19P
The prop game is an expensive one to play tho.

Good numbers. I'd suspect the 18P ECO would be even better...and get those revs back up at WOT.
I run an ECO on our Yamaha 250. Lost a touch of top speed (2knts slower - 41 to 39) but efficiency improved, as did low-speed maneuvering. The whole boat rides higher at speed and flatter.

Your kicker bracket was measured/designed for a motor without power tilt. The power tilt units have a much longer bracket.
Best advice would be to have a welder extend the bracket upward so that you can get all four mounting bolts attached (ditch the hand tightened clamp bolts and just use mounting nuts/bolts). This will lift your kicker a bit higher, so I would only do this if the leg is long enough. Otherwise, you should extend the mounting plate downward (which may drag in the water at low speed, but should be fine when planing)

It definitely doesn't need to be perched resting on the bracket, most mains aren't. As mentioned extending the bracket and 4 bolts are best but you could try drilling higher on the bracket to see how it works.

Recently I watched a dyno vid with flipped air cleaner vs. Not and it made 8hp more flipped lol

I couldāve had a lot of eight dollar payoffs back in the day when the know it allās said it just sounded like it was making more power.

Well, finally got my car back from the repair shop after three weeks.
Went to Ross lake on Sunday for the day with a friend. 51 fish in total between the two of us.
Monday, I decided to see if I could make it to Vanier boat launch all the way from maple ridge. Got there without too much trouble. Backed down, stopped the car about 1 foot away from the water's edge. Problem is my boat was about 7 or 8 inches above the water. I could have backed deeper but how would I get into the boat and fire up the Hattie and reverse off the trailer.
Heard somewhere high tide is better at Vanier? Anyhow, pulled out,loaded everything back in the car, only to find I have a broken left leaf spring on the road runner.
Man, what a crappy summer. Hopefully autumn is better.
Oh, yes, couldn't catch crappie in whonnock lake either.

Projects that should have happened months ago and not during fishing season. I had two fake sleeper seats side by side. The rear cushions rotted out last winter and were leaving a trail of rotten plywood. I was going to get another year out of them but they were Fād beyond repair. And I had a real sleeper seat sitting around. Had to build a box to get the seats off the ground. Wrapped in waterproof backpack fabric Iāve been hoarding for a decade. Shimmed them up 1/4ā with edpm so water can drain out as needed and the wood box wonāt be sitting in water. Iāll put a hinge on it so I can get at the storage under the seats.
This was built without any thought and just design on the fly but maybe Iāll make the box out of aluminum next time when I tackle the captains chair thatās taking up room in the garage

The second pic shows how it was shipped. It came in the big box at the top of pic. The tiny chip at the bottom of the pic is what eventually goes into the unit, lol.
