Welded Aluminum Boat Build - Q's needing answers

An accumulation of questions to be resolved for a 20' welded aluminum, centre console boat build. Thanks for the help!

  • 1. is anyone running a thru-hull sonar, or are transom mounted better?
  • 2. put the batteries in the console or stern?
  • 3. is a fresh water tank very useful? does it require a second pump or just a valve/switch? (I bring a 1 litre bottle to rinse the reels and just don’t feel like I need any more.)
  • 4. can a wash down pump be plumbed without drilling a hole in the hull? is this common? (I prefer as few holes in my hull as possible, zero preferably)
  • 5. stern fish locker or just use a cooler?
  • 6. is applying a paint, like zolatone, on the interior and/or exterior above the water line (in addition to bottom paint) worth it for protection and a "softer" feel?
  • 7. plumb a separate fuel tank for the kicker? or is that overkill?
  • 8. on Lifetimer’s version of a self-bailing deck, would a puncture sink the boat or not?

Feel free to respond by referencing the question's number.
