Watershed Watch is at it again with their attack on the public fishery!

I like the way they counter what they call ‘junk science’ with verifiable numbers like ‘a bunch’. 🙄
Unfortunately, hysterical hyperbole is the go-to for these NGOs as it’s emotions that draw donations; not rational thought.

"Almost 40 per cent of those released fish will die before they reach their spawning grounds - defeating the rationale for existing recreational closures that normally are in place till the middle of July or later."

Well, ain't this the pot calling the kettle black if ever I read it. "Junk science" being weaponized by the ENGO crowd to spread their false and misleading narrative. Those in the know about FRIM rates certainly wouldn't be putting it out there as almost 40% of released fish will die. Good grief!

David Suzuki FB site just posted this one last hour.

We're seeing in recent news that the future of commercial salmon trolling in southeast Alaska has been thrown into doubt after a court ruled on the threat it poses to the protected fish and endangered killer whales that eat them.

Mark-selective Chinook fisheries were recently opened near Victoria, B.C. These fisheries will catch and kill the same endangered salmon that Southern Resident orcas depend on.

The Government of Canada has deemed itself a global leader in conservation and has committed to halting and reversing biodiversity loss. These B.C. salmon fisheries are a contradiction. It’s time to hold our leaders accountable.

Here also the link and latest lies about our rec sector:

“DFO fisheries managers are trying to introduce new recreational quota fisheries for marked hatchery Chinook that would discard and harm endangered wild Chinook. These fisheries lack any of the monitoring, validation, verification or safeguards required in other commercial salmon fisheries.”
– Greg Taylor, fisheries adviser with the Watershed Watch Salmon Society

Fisheries should be qouta based on how many fish there are to sustain the 3 user groups along with wildlife and healthy populations. Managing that has no ideologies, only science. The yearly limit on a licence should be based on scientific data, leading us to a count and the success of maintaining the fishery for all of the above reasons in this paragraph. That is quota. That is managment.

Anytime one user group is out of balance with the other user group its not managed.
