Wassup up in Sooke?

Slow and Slow. Fished Otter on Sunday and only managed to hook into a couple of pinks and an undersize spring. Saw maybe 4 fish being hook all day. There was a small bite on 11 am. Good luck yo mama.

Hey johnny where ya been?Fins has been trying too hunt you down so we can line up a jet sled trip on some secret west coast rivers this fall! You wouldn't be interested in a ride in that noisy enviromentally disruptive jet would you!Get a hold of fin and skin!

Just Bring it!

Vince,
Just lurking around <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Not much to report.
A jet sled ride? sounds fun. Game on.

yo mama talked to the guys and it is slow off of sooke theres been a few off of possesion and up at sheringham but i think the best bet is to go west there always seems to be fish off of that reef.

Good luck Wolf

Saw one spring come in off the trap, SLOW. We hit two on the heavy ebb around 1230 at the head and unfortunately lost them both. Water temp 50.9 in spots ??? Hhmmmm !!! Pinks are hit and miss which is mind boggling for this time of year. Shouldn't be able to keep any meat in the water without a pink on...

Was out 10:30 to 4pm at Beechy Head with little activity. Released a couple of small Coho early but not even a sniff of Springs. Went out towards the tide line after 1pm and bumped into a school of pinks. At least the double header got us out of our seats. Yeah, its "really" exciting to fight a 4lb fish on Chinook gear. Couldn't find the school again so that was about it.

5hrs of fishing = 4 fish under 6lbs

I'd say its still a little slow. At least it looked like a lake out there with little wind to boot. Almost wanted to just break out the fly gear.

Cheers,
Alex

... "high water" is when you can fish from your car.

Out this am to 10:30 at Possession and Otter. Very slow, one shaker spring, not even any pinks!

Just returned from yet another slow day in Sooke, Lots of boats and not alot of fish. Some sockeye and the odd pink with the odd coho in the mix if your lucky. Springs ??? I heard of a 48 lber coming in to Beecher bay today???

Fished hard on Sunday. Otter in the am and trap for the tide change.
Not much to report.

Took my friends out to the tide lines to get some pinks so the day was not a complete flop. Could not find them so got on the radio.
Pinks were 180 ft down!!! in 500+ feet of water.
Dropped the gear and sure enough got some pinks right away.

Let me tell you a 5lb pink from 180 ft does not put up much of a fight but if you want some fish for the smoker... GO DEEP.

I wonder if the water tempature is keeping them down?

Tips Up!

Nope, I had to take a break from fishing Sooke. Fished Rentfrew yesterday with Yammy5..... "What a refreshing break from Sooke...6 hali, 6 springs, 6 coho and a bucket of black bass by early afternoon yesterday. Fished near the bank in some of the calmest weather I've seen up there. Springs were up to 20lbs for us and another boat came in with 6 springs up to 30lbs (along with their limit of butts). Total blast. Heard the beach was a little slow."

I was out briefly Sunday from 8 am to 10:15. We were looking for pinks or sockeye. My 9 year old niece got seasick so we headed in. 1 sockeye(it's open now)for the bbq. Heard a few guys on 68 saying they got 1 spring. We're going out tomorrow to start on springs and finish on sockeye.

Anyone else brave the wind today?

It started snotty and finished snotty but there was a window where the weather was OK.

Picked up and 18lb spring and some pinks at the Trap Shack. Saw a few fish but still slow.

Marked a lot of fish, saw some birds working and a few whales went through. That was encouraging.

Was out yesterday too and picked up a set of bookends about #20 at the trap and then went out off sec.Island and picked up a couple sox's and 4 pinks. Not a bad day considering the wind and slop.

Yes they both were.We lost 1 more at the boat, spit the hook and the guy playing it was his 1st big spring that he'd ever played. Also had 1 more on but never got to see it.But the people I took out had a good time and they thought that it was great that they got to see the whales. All in all a good day.
Was out Sunday with a guy from work and got a couple sox's but he had a boat with no roof on it and I thought I was a french fry when we got back home was glad to fish in my boat yesderday, was nice there for a little while.Trying to think where to go this week Port,Renfrew,or stay home and fish Sooke???
