I missed the main push of fish on that first high water in October---the rivers were absolutely stupid with fish but I'd just spayed my dog and I had to keep her quiet (and dry) so that was that.
But just before the cold snap I snuck in a trip to the promised land
I stared at muddy water for a couple of days and saw trees getting blown out of their root wads and falling into the river from the fierce winds a-blowing but the puppy and I stuck it out and finally struck pay dirt.
At first I thought it had to be a spring when it snaked up onto the beach :

But nope---just a big slabby coho that had to have been pushing high-teens. You guys who fish up north are used to fish like that but down here it's an eye-opener
The puppy, for once in her life, was struck speechless:
