UPDATE - due to the social media net that went out, people helped to ID him, and locate possible places he could be. RCMP marine Det called me and we had conversations through the day.

They have just got a report from CG that the stolen boat (he used to enter marinas) was found anchored up with a hali anchor system and full of gear. seems like my crappy gear will be found likely...

I'd be surprised if they ended up finding your 6 Islanders and that Rolex you forgot to take with you though... bummer.

In the words of my father inlaw "that guy should be shot with a ball of his own ****! "

****** you can have that clear evidence and still nothing will be done. Best case you may recover your gear if they can get to him before it is sold.
A similar thing, not exactly the same but, a guy was siphoning 10's of 1000's of liters of diesel fuel from trucks, each tractor filled can hold 900 liters, 200 gallons, he had a big red tank in the back of his pick up. Even when caught in the act the police said they couldn't prove who owned the diesel fuel so they didn't pursue it.
I got together with some owners and we posted a bounty of $5,000.00 for this guy's pointer finger, just one if caught in the act.

The police got real mad and threatened charges if we did that, so essentially they were protecting this guy. They knew who he was and did nothing. Eventually this guy stopped for some unknown reason. ;) Can't take a finger but bruises, that's another thing.

I could imagine that swimming might be hard if totally stoned?

Just kidding, can't do anything like that, he has a medical condition due to drug use.

In Vancouver they just let them go anyway.

Is there such a thing as a citizen's arrest in BC?

One night At Fishermen’s wharf in Victoria back in the ‘80’s there was a couple of asshats coming along our row of commercial trollers stealing the leads off the wire on each boat they rowed by. One of the guys who was sleeping on board his troller got up to have a leak over the side and spotted these clowns working there way down the row so he snuck into his lazerette and got a 60 lb ball which he took up to his flared bow. When these guys went to row by him he tossed this ball down from about 8ft up. It took the whole bottom out of their plywood dinghy and all the boys were roused from their boats to greet this pair as they were dragged from the water. Everybody had a good laugh and we got a diver to retrieve everyone’s lead the next morning.

Not condoning or suggesting.. Lots of liability involved. Probably safer for all involved if the person makes a getaway that involves a flight of stairs...

It seems that we eventually get to a place with these threads where members start suggesting that they "take matters into their own hands" instead of letting the authorities handle it. This is a reminder that things you post in a public forum like this can be used against you in the event that you one day find yourself in a situation whereby you take matters into your own hands and injury, or worse, occurs. We have been approached by police in the past regarding things posted in the forum while they were conducting an investigation. Personally, I have had more than one vehicle broken into and I understand the anger and frustration that goes with these incidents, but posting what you would do to someone if you ever caught them could become a major problem for you down the road.

I think part of it is the communal frustration where the victims of the crimes feel that the criminals are better protected and have more rights.

There are many cases where the police are restricted in their ability to action intel. Or seemly unable to put resources towards resolving the continued crime. Which leads to more frustration.

It's frustrating for the police too I think. When they arrest someone, the person is most often released by crown and back at it in hours/days.

IMHO there needs to be consequences to actions, and that's the responsibility of crown, but they seem to be asleep at the wheel. Maybe judges need to be held liable for the actions of those they release?

Not suggesting violence or taking the law into one's own hands - crown would have a field day with you and throw the book at you.

Just understand how frustrated everyone is.

Just to sum up the debate. The RCMP marine det and other police agencies have asked for the video. The clarity and having a good capture of Bradley Parsons stealing my gear will mean more charges and because of the quality of the video a conviction should not be difficult.

Yes under current laws he would likely be released after arrest however the new Carney government ( I know many of you are not fans of the current government but lets leave political debate out of this) has indicated they are looking to amend the law so criminals will face jail time in more situations like this.

Even if it is catch and release until sentencing, insuring a record is maintained of this thief's actions will help maybe a future case (when/if the laws change) to help a judge imprison him longer by then.

My thanks goes out to the people, police and other agencies that stepped up to id and find him. I wasn't too worried about the small amount of gear (and the poo bucket that idiot grabbed) but the other gear and boat that was recovered ws returned to their owners.

So in the end the good guys won and a thief is now famous (or infamous) on social media.

This thread was starting to veer into the political debate world with Twitter like commentary. Hot-Streak started the thread as a heads up for everyone about possible threat of further theft, and has now had the last word on the outcome of situation. We are never going to turn this forum into a political debate platform.
