Wanted: 20-22 Foot Aluminum

I know this is a hail mary, but we're getting desperate! Long-time lurker, but been unwisely holding out for the right fit, as prices just seem to continue to rise and demand remains strong (US economy humming, $CDN in the dumpster, peak baby boomer, massive stock market gains, and the fishing has actually been good!) at least for what we'd like, which is what everyone else wants as well: 20-22 foot aluminum, preferably local, e.g. SS (now astronomical), Wolf (now defunct), Eaglecraft (now seem to be only building $half-mill + boats), the elusive Northwest Aluminumcraft out of Langford (not sure I've ever seen a 20-22 foot walkthrough style); preferably aluminum deck; preferably podded/bracket; preferably Japanese 150-250 HP with reasonable hours; preferably hardtop; preferably bulkhead; preferably aft steering; preferably walk-through. Yes, a unicorn!

Family of four, fishing out of Nanaimo. But the kids probably won't want (or be forced) to come with us much longer, so we probably only have a couple years left of the golden years! We've been saving our pennies and have $100k cash, plus or minus, for the right boat, which seems crazy, but is what it is these days! And probably not even enough!

Would very much appreciate any leads. Could potentially trade for someone looking to downsize/simplify, a 2011 16 ft Hewescraft, 70 HP Yamaha. Great little boat but simply too small for us now. Sips gas, fits in our garage during off season, can tow it with literally anything.

Thank you!!

Not many people try to sell during winter months although I still think demand is strong. We should see more for sale March-June, then everybody that has one will be using it. I've never had much luck with wanted adds, people will call about whatever junk they are trying to get rid of,but it costs nothing and you might get lucky and find just what you want.

Check out lux marine on Instagram- matt makes beauty boats and has made a few 22 ft cabins - not sure on prices

That’s a good budget. Definitely can get a kingfisher or hewescraft in that size. I’d throw it up on Craigslist and used Victoria used Nanaim. Also post on Facebook groups. I found my first boat this way, and even specified the exact model. If someone bought their boat pre-2020 they might make almost all their money back so it never hurts to ask.

100K for that size and type of boat is a big ask these days. There are options though in the new market. Before I did my boat I looked at the HT21 from metal boat kits. I believe my builder is in the range of 70K for hull fab and then another 30-45 for power installed and rigged depending on how big you want to go. https://www.artisanmarine.ca/projects/ht-21-sport-fisher-family-cruiser Give Cole a call and he can walk you through options and budgets. He is a good dude!

Yes, those are great, well laid out, can't really go wrong. I think of the hewes 210 as like the Corolla of tin boats. But just not the same as the local builds which look like tanks. If we're not in the ball park for one of those then yes would be perfectly happy with any of the hewes, raider, north river, thunderjet, bulton, etc. etc. Also love glass boats, grew up on those, and the only reason we'd prefer tin is because we love beaching - yes can beach glass, but would always be worried, and yes maybe not even a good idea to beach a tin boat, but we're going to do it anyway.

Thank you! I had not heard of them before. I will give them a call. Not a huge fan of that design for a 4 seater, would prefer no cuddy and the cabin pushed forward for seating, which yes would probably pound more, but we're primarily just taking it easy around the gulf islands.

Jaxoncraft did about 80% of the hull for me and then I took over with the rest of the welding plus all the wiring, rigging and finishing. I ended up with a 24' clone to a Walker for less than half of the cost of a Walker...

I put about 200hrs into myself but I work for free on my own stuff!

Message me if you want more details.

Would love a pic my friend! I remember us messaging back and forth.

Anchor buddy is a good way to visit beaches, with a glass boat. Boultons and Allied boats are two down south to consider, but go local if you can. One member had Jaxson craft build him a 22ish.
yes, love the anchor buddy, and we may end up going down the glass route because you sure seem to get more boat for the $ these days.

Nice looking Raider 210 on Marketplace. They may take an offer.

Totally. Was hoping to avoid the wood deck if possible, but might not be in the cards. They must have the wood and foam figured out by now on the newer boats. Probably last forever.

I may have missed you answering it earlier, but will you keep it on the trailer or moor it for most of the year?
