Walker Boats - Centre Console

If you want to give me a call I can give you the in's and out's of building a 'Walker' boat. I built a cope Yellowpoint 23 (which I turned into a 24 by extending the swim-grid) and it is the same boat as the Walker x23. I went this route as I couldn't afford the 350k for the x23 but wanted one so bad that I figured out a way to make it happen on my terms.

I'd be taking a look at this Jaxoncraft 22:

Great reputation, ready to go...
i’m a huge JC fan but 169 k for that boat is absolutely mentally insane.

i realize the costs of everything under the sun is nuts but come on now….

That Jaxoncraft is loaded. I wonder what it would cost to just buy everything, much less weld it together? He should include the trailer at that price but it does look to small for the boat.

Here's a comparison which is pretty dam nice but no high speed suspension seats, windlass. This one does have trim tabs. https://www.albernipowermarine.com/product/aluminum-boats/arrowline/216-center-console
A lot less...

I built mine for around that with trailer, cuddy, vinyl wrap, electronics, walnut interior, suspension seats etc etc...

I mean, if he's looking at a Walker build, that Jaxon is going to be cheaper I think...

At least it's fully loaded, toss your gear on and go...

But yeah, everything in the custom aluminum boat realm is super expensive...

Here's a comparison what $110K is getting:

3/16" build
smaller boat
no kicker
no electronics

And I wouldn't rule out those Lux boats... I went out on Kelly's Lux 22' CC in Tofino last year and it is a nice machine... Maybe OP should book a trip and get a first hand impression.

The idea that no website means not an established builder should be put to rest when you consider Northwest which are a pretty desirable choice for aluminum boats on the Island and they don't have a website or fancy social media...

The old BV 18EXT CCs used a similar centre only hull under the pod, but changed it to full width hull under the pod. I wonder how that center only flotation handles and with all that power?

Walker builds a great boat, their prices got a little silly shortly after I had mine built, not sure where they're at now though. Welds and attention to detail were solid.

I'd take a look at Lux and Northwest too and see what they have to offer. Lots of good builders on Vancouver Island.

You could talk to Cope and see who they have on their list of builders. Walker is very well known and worked a lot with Cope, however, as Ryan suggested they are a premium builder and that’s probably not what you’re looking for.

My 19' Jasper has a 2ft centre only pod. My outboard weighs 433lbs and it works fine, but is sensitive to weight balance (my centre console if also positioned with a slight rearward bias to have a larger bow area). If you want a larger outboard (anything bigger than a 150hp) or if you want a kicker as well, I'd do full hull extension.

That Lux boat you list is a massive 19' boat. The beam at the waterline is considerable. A pretty cool and robust little big hull. If center cons are your thing it's neat.

Matt has been the primary welder on our last couple builds. First with Northwest and the latter with Lux. He's a solid builder with considerable time at Eaglecraft, Silverstreak, and Northwest before starting Lux. I have found him to be great to work with. Don't expect a boat out of him tomorrow though (there's a good lineup).

I've got a wrap on my Bridgeview CC and it's OK... 6 years old and peeling or looking worn in some spots... I don't worry about it too much... paint and wraps don't catch fish.

Nothing is going to be perfect, but I think Jaxon does a pretty good job on their paint FWIW... Here's a 14 year old boat from them that's listed, paint on the cabin, it's looking pretty good...

When Robert was building our boat he told us he was only going to have boats wrapped - by professionals, and not paint boats anymore.

We were building during the pandemic and we went out to see 3M.

We met them outside, they put down stuff for us on a table in their bay and my wife picked out the colour, after taking the samples outside, having me holding up what I remember to be between 300-400 shades of dark blue.

Near the end I was holding up various shades of blue and walking them around full sunlight, sort of sunny, shady, really shady.

It was like helping pick fabric, or wallpaper, but slightly more enjoyable. The colour is perfect by the way. On ocassion people (ok women) walking on the dock will comment on the colour. I just look at them and say, "Thank You, my wife picked the colour",

Invariably, the they smile and make that un-huh noise, and look at me thinking "Thank You Captain Obvious".

Our wrap looks like new (still) but then our boat is in a covered slip, that gets very little direct sunshine on the cabin.

I'm sure that Lux would be comparable to a similar Walker or Jaxon build, that's why I posted it. Like I said. I've been on a Lux CC and I appreciate the boat.

I think of you want a Lux boat tomorrow... there it is. I posted it. It's built. Ready to go. For sale... Of you want "your" custom build of course there's a wait wherever you go...

That's cool. I am happy with my boat now, but maybe at some point I'll get my wrap redone, maybe I'll match my truck or something...

I think that price shows pretty good value . The nice thing about that boat is that you should be able to go for a test ride with the owner.

When Robert retired he built himself a 22' (I think) centre console,( it might have been a 20').

That says a lot about that boat . He fishes it out of Tahsis as I recall.

Here is a listing for an older Jaxon Craft 28. Thunderbird Marina West Vancouver

I think they have had it for sale for quite some time. No Price listed, but the photos lack composition and the boat needs a good cleaning.and polish. 875 hours on the motors,
