LOTS of halibut off the waterfront right now, just spend the last couple days on limits. Some salmon on Constance as well. Good luck to everyone on the derby, I'll be "working" unfortunatly.
So what was with the small helicopter yesterday afternoon in Oak Bay? About 2:30-3pm in the afternoon it hovered right over a boat anchored in the Flats and looked to get within 20-30' of the water. Didn't seem to be an enforcement bird... Someone getting pictures for the Halibut Derby?

Seen that chopper a couple of times this week, didn't look like
coastguard or airforce ??
6 strikes on the flats yesterday, seal got the first one followed
by a release of a wild mid teener.
Then 4 good hits , none of which stuck for more than 30 seconds

fished the flats 630-1030 tide was ripping, lots of boats and there was a few fish landed we had a haly let a small spring go and had a double of good fish lost one and got a 20lb hatch beauty.Looked like it was going to be a good afternoon.Did it get better after the tide slowed craven?
We picked up 2 - 8 & 14lbs , lost 2 smoker's , and then it
pretty much died off around 11:00am.
Lot's of boats, Tide started to flood but not enough for a good backeddy.
I'll bet another bite comes on around 3:00 once the flood sets up.
