Victoria outer harbour crabbing.

I was out kayaking from the gorge to in front of Beacon Hill Park today. Noticed a lot of (crab trap?) floats in the Victoria outer harbour (in front of the coast guard). Anyone know if it is a "leased area" or if it is open to all who wish to fish? Quality of the crabs caught (dioxins)?

There are lots of crabs off the waterfront. Off Beacon Hill, you are just a hop skip and a jump away from the turd pipe. I'd crab closer to the lagoon if it were me.

I guess once the sewer pipes are in place in the lagoon, catching crabs will be over!

Not if you like the "South Island Bouquet". Really, eat a couple of Renfrew crabs, then eat a couple locals, and report back on how they taste.

Hmmm....I don't think I've had Renfrew crabs yet...I'd imagine it tastes wayyyy better then the ones in Victoria.

Btw, how far off do you have to go to catch crabs in Renfrew?

Not very at all, anywhere in 20-60 feet along the west side of the bay is where I get them, it's really hard to go wrong.

Thanks for the info LC. I'll try the crabbing next time I head out to Jordan River for some fishing weekend!
