Left cattle at about 730am this morning headed out somewhere out in the distance off the waterfront. Anchored by 8 and had our first double header in about 20minutes,then another double header 40min or so later.all the halibut where caught on xl herring, one rod had a herring skirt with a l.e.d. stuffed in the head got no action, they preferred plain old herring. Also caught 1 very big dogfish which I thought was a halibut because it fought all the way up. Weather was a little snotty on the way out but calmed down on the way back in. Halibut were almost all the same size the largest one being 43lbs. Saw a couple other boats anchored up on the way in but not very many for a weekend. All in all a very fine day

Suke Skywalker....best handle ever! Just saying.

Out again today off Esquimalt...bit lumpy so we called it after about an hour and a half. Managed to pick up a little spring on a green and yellow glow spoon off Victoria harbour mouth in 140 feet just off bottom.

Bit of wind, lots of waves; but man o man was it nice to see some sun today!

Did the tide change from Esquimalt ramp to Trial Island. Nada.

Salmon fishing?

is there much in the way of winter spring fishing happening now?
I have been away for a few weeks,
and am wondering if it is worth trying off Victoria Waterfront/ Constance...
Kinda antsy to get out there..
Cheers!

Great day out off Esquimalt, sunny with hardly any wind. 6 fish in the boat today nothing huge, but a couple of 6's and a 7. Not crazy hot out there like after Christmas...but steady. Trolled between 160-180 out off harbour mouth, scraping bottom or 20 feet of bottom. Coho killer white and green was working well...anchovie did nothing...kripple k chrome and brass did OK.

Bunch of big tall ships came into the harbour...looked awesome. Sunny day, fish in the boat and cool ships to troll around. Awesome!

Suke Skywalker...just need to get out there...

Dropped in at cattle point and fished middle bank, drifted along the border then towards Constance from 830 to 130 but no hali. A few dogfish and ratfish stealing bait was the only excitement. Saw two hali carcasses at the ramp around 20lbs each. Perhaps I should have gone salmon fishing near cheanuh

You didn't miss much for salmon, we fished the waterfront
released 4 undersize , same yesterday but fed the seal as well.

Was slower today for sure. Two fish today off Esquimalt in 4 hours, one had 20 herring in its belly it was discovered during autopsy.

Fished the hell out of the front of victoria today...with only a couple of springs to show for it. If it wasn't for the company and getting to be guest crew on someone else's boat it might have gotten old fast.

Hope that next time around is a little hotter!

Really? You are complaining about catching only 'a couple of springs' in March? First world problems...

Sunday's weather was incredible.
Anchored 2.5 hours on the border caught two dogfish, and something ate the rest of our bait. Moved to Constance trolling with green/white coho killers (150ft)and got three springs(hatchery). Picked up the crab traps to find more dinner. All in all a great day.

Yeah, pretty jaded after an awesome year...and this is the first world, right?

I got invited by firelight for a hali trip and went fishing with Wolf on Sunday. Good times with firelight, Islander55, and Justin. Thanks again Roy :).

Leaving Oak Bay at o'dark thirty.

Heading out. Cool skies that morn.

Nice wake from the Hourston.

Firelight waiting for the big one.

Continued....
