Out today for a long haul, 7am - 3pm off of Peddar. Got these three and lost another - fish were pretty evenly spread out throughout the day. Pretty windy but manageable. All fish taken on herring.

Still slow , but better than early this week....
15 & 6 lb Springs on the afternoon flood.

Are they still on needlefish? What was in their tummies? I saw some herring around Victoria harbour last week.

Slowish at Constance
Fished Constance 11 am - 2:30 pm
Both our fish ( 7 wild and 4 hatch) were caught before noon on Andrew P's needlefish spoon, on one side.
Neither anchovy nor blue splatter back hoochie got a sniff.
We definitely felt fortunate to pick up a couple fish today.
4-6" needlefish in the salmon--both were well fed.
Partner also jigged up a couple smallish ling that were released (they also spit out needlefish).
That was our first time try jigging out there--but we enjoyed trying something different.
Anyone have any advice on jigging at Constance?
We were having trouble staying in contact with the bottom--so we are thinking
of trying it at a slack period next time--with slightly larger jigs...

Out from 8-2 on Constance today with nothing to show for it. We did pick up loads of ling and other cod today, but they all went back.
What can you keep for cod now? I have my paper regs and they don't really tell you anything...ling over 65...
Just wish my wireless worked out on Constance...someone get on that! Probably only get be AT&T and get charged a mint!

Lines in the water from 10-2 in a buddies boat. Started quite slow, but once the ebb died, it got better. Brought home 2 cookie cutter 10-12lb and a 6lb. Also did well for crab. Glad the rain and wind stayed away. Also glad we were able to avoid getting seal'd. There were a bunch out there loitering. Best part of our day though may have been the drive to the launch....... came up on a marathon of runners going both directions on Beach Dr. Buddy chats with Ooak Bay cop, and he radios in a police escort for us. We were passing runners enroute to cattle. haha. My buddies 4 year old was loving it.

Trolled Constance from 10:30-2:30
11 am hooked a nice spring on the sand lance spoon--and got sealed.
Lost the fish (except 1/2 a head--estimate fish was 9-10 lbs) but got the sand lance spoon back--phew--our only one..!
That was it for action. There were at least 8 other boats out there--mostly trolling, and we only saw a
a small salmon netted once.
Hopefully we will start to get groups of mature fish moving in soon.
Thanks to fishing bud for a great day--it was much better than plan b. (yard work)

Yeah, I find a sure fire way to get the seal off your fish is to yell really loudly at it and wave your arms in a threatening way...helps if the words start with F. Usually causes the seal to laugh at you and lose his grip on your fish!

Shoot it in the face with a sling shot...I know that is pretty mean...but desperate times and all.
Fished constance 9-12:30 on tuesday, really slow for us. Didn't see a fish come in, apparently I was wrong. Must get an Andrew P lure I guess! Did manage to hook into a seal...whether he took a fish that just hit or it hooked him, it was a hell of a fight for 10 -15 min. Thought it was botttom, then maybe a lunker hali as I got some weird head shakes, then it went slack and noticed a seal 150' away, he went down....so did my line again. My leader finally broke at the tiny teaser head.
Is that what a 120lber feels like!

Keep your boat on top of the seal so he can't come up for air, sometimes they'll let go to grab a breath.

I don't think this quite counts as a fish coming in. I've never been so careful trying to get the gear back - the fish was on my only Andrew P Sandlance spoon - the only thing that's been working lately out on the bank. Feel like it's been slower than it should be at this time. Like Poppa Swiss says, we tried to stay on top of the seal as much as possible - sure was relieved. I would bet you had a fish before that seal, Seashare. Sometimes it doesn't take long once the fish is slowed down by the lure.

If the gear is not worth losing, give the seal lots of slack.
don't fight it and it will chew the salmon off the line.
I know many disagree and want to fight the seal in order to get the fish
but it rarely works.

Interesting RS... I've never heard that before but it seems really logical. I'll give it a try next time because around Victoria unfortunately there will definitely be a next time!
