Heading up to renfrew hope the fishing is good
Trailering up a couple boats.
Is via sooke faster then cowachin way
How's the roads these days

Road from sooke was fine the last time I went. That was a couple years ago I wouldn't be surprised if its even better now they did some upgrades and re routing.

I've done the cowie way too it was fine but unless your pulling a really large boat and are worried about your tow vehicle/trailer I'd just do sooke.

Just did both in June:
Sooke ways pretty good. Lots of sharp "s" curves, narrow spots and some rough sections and delays due to road repairs.

Cowichan way is really good with the occasional bumpy section. Bumps can be hard to see and pretty large. More like frost heaves. Still, going through Cowichan was a better road in my opinion. Just remember to watch for the frost heaves.

Cowichan, much easier on boat and trailer.
I prefer the Lake Cowichan way hands down....with or without the boat in tow. So far this summer I have done the Cowichan route about 15 times and the other way twice. All except the first time without the boat. I find the Sooke route a total grind and a harder overall drive and really slow with traffic at times. The lane heading to Sooke from Renfrew is terrible along the edge and I usually spend most of the time in the middle....except on blind spots of course. The cowichan route has been paved for about 8 years now. The first part out of Meshachie Lake is wide with more straight sections. The middle is a typical west coast road with a few single lane bridges that are marked well. Once you come down the hill past Lizard lake you are on the original paved section which has lots of "whoops" on it and best to drive a little slower for the last 10km or so. I also find it a little more scenic cutting across the Island.....not that there aren't some beautiful spots coming from the other way just different....imo

Agreed. My swim grid caved in on me after hitting a series of bumps.
Have my kicker on the grid. Or should I say did.
Anyone got a used solid kicker mount. The fishing at camper turned on yesterday.
