VHF Will not work...

So we were listening to the VHF when a notice came over to check the mic as someone was on 16 with an open mike. While the mike was in the holder, I squeezed the transmit button, the VHF quite. No display, nothing. I checked the fuse, it is OK, I checked the wiring to the power box and ground, looks good and tight. I am at a loss

Anybody with any ideas???

It is a one year old Uniden Solarace.

Maybe you did this already I would get a test light and recheck the wireing all the way to the radio, the fuse holder is an easy spot to start good luck.

I too am having challenges with my VHF operation, although a little different maybe its a related problem.
I was told for the make I have on the 1 800 number they are very sensitive to proper power and ground issues, worst case scenario, try it right off your battery possibly. I have a faulty breaker or weak one and can't transmit 25 w so the unit protects itself from damage so trys to shut down. I admit to be NO electrical scholar, so I am seaking a proper New breaker, or going direct to battery, red to pos and black to neg.

Sometimes they have internal fuses as a second fail safe so that if joe six pack dosen't put in an external fuse, it doesn't nuke the radio. I've never had a VHF apart, only UHF out of logging trucks. Marine rads are also sealed, so might not be the best idea to compromise the seal. I'd exhaust all options externally first. Should still have warranty if only a year old shouldn't it?

Re-check your power lines as indicated by others here. You may have 12 Volts at the radio, but no amperage. Could be a bad connection somewhere.

Try running new wires of a larger size directly to the battery. If this does not cure the problem, then check your antenna connections.

It could be that your antenna has a short in it and the radio is shutting down to protect itself.
