Underwater Camera

Hi guys,

Am thinking about possibly adding an underwater camera to the Pursuit as I think it'd be an awesome lil gadget to have for not only entertaining guests but also for fishing fish. I know of guys our way that have used it them in 150+ft of water halibut fishing (watched a 230lbs hali bite...pretty cool stuff) and seems like it can also add a bit of insight into the area and how the fish are behaving.

Any of you guys used one before and did you like it in salt water while trolling?? Any suggestions of a good one that would work well in 40-50ft of water for salmon? Not sure I'd be using it for hali fishing...but ya never know I guess. Any insight into it would be great.

Thanks guys,
David

The Strike Vision from Walker is one some people use has decent results.

Sounds like a great idea using the actual downrigger wire as your cable connection but it's actually quite flimsy breaks all the time and isn't cheap to replace.

I got one off ebay a few years back. The one I have is good to 60 feet. I tried using it off the downrigger but the chord drags really bad. Another con is that the camera has to be no farther that about 6 feet max.from the bait in the clearest water to see it. I found it was too much trial and error to waste the clients time messing with it. I use it now to investigate scallop spots before diving on them. ITs got a built in led light for night use as well. Good luck.

I have used one jigging in shallow water, and it was fun to see the different fish come by, from really small to somewhat worthwhile. Also used one ice fishing, which was alright, but the resolution was so bad it was hard to understand what was happening. And, I used one to observe my crab trap once, which only served to frustrate me, as crab after crab was too stupid to get itself in trouble. No experience with them in high-pressure fishing situations. Found them fun to have, but mostly just gimmicky. I couldn't see using one for trolling or halis (not enough light). But maybe for jigging big lings in the rocks.

I have the exact same results and comments
Found it to be a waist of time when trolling on the downrigger due to the cable drag

hey david a buddy of mine runs one with great success up to 160 ft...uses a 20" 12 volt flat screen for viewing....he made some modifications to it and works great....been onboard to watch hali's , lings, and salmon (and the odd dogfish) hit the gear....trolling and jiggin....crystal clear even down deep....give me a shout and I can hook you up with him....lives just north of comox....
