I am sitting in ucluelet and hope to do some fishing in the next 5 days. Have never fished here before and was hoping someone would be nice enough to give me some advise. Have fished tofino and bad field area for 20 years so familiar with salmon fishing just not to familiar with spots around Ukee. I am hoping to target springs relatively close to Ukee as have an 8 and 5 year old joining me. are there any spots close to Ukee that I could possibly get some halibut. Have a 20 boat so don't want to run out 15 miles. thanks any info appreciated and will help get some kids interested in the best sport in the world!

For springs close to Ucluelet, try fishing the Red Can and between the the lighthouse and little beach. You'll likely see a few boats there. Try anchovies trolled 6' behind a flasher or small spoons. Needlefish and other hootchies area also worth trying. Beg Island can also prodcue. Be patient, put in your time and you will find some real decent local springs returning along the shoreline. As far as halibut close to shore, good luck, we have caught a couple of incedental ones while trolling for salmon but that is rare. I saw a 40 lber caught behind Chrow Island in August once but I'd say that was also rare.

Study the regs closely for springs and coho while fishing close to shore.
