My family and I usually fish Ucluelet late July and early August however this year we are being limited to late June and the month of July because of moorage limitations. Are the fishing opportunities during these earlier months as productive as the later part of the season? Also are the Halibut still inshore in late June?

All good for salmon and hali!!! I find you catch more but smaller fish in june.. I know nothing about inshore halibut;)

Will you be on the anchor for hali or drifting? There are some good spots to anchor off of Wya pt, just a few miles off that produce that time of year, very noticeable on a chart.

Thanks for the reply "fishinforever". I think I know the spots you are refering to, I drifted there the last timeand did ok. Do you prefer to anchor on one of the ledges? I have no problem anchoring, just haven't tried it yet.

I have also heard of nice Hali's coming from the flats in Florncia Bay, can anyone verify this?

Good Hali Spots All Summer

Those areas are decent but another great way to catch some Hali's is to troll, drop your cannon ball until it hits the bottom then put the break on and let the line drag from the water lift it just off the bottom so in a deep swell at the bottom your cannon ball just bumps the bottom time to time. Real bait such as anchovies work good but I usually run a big green and glow speckle back cuddle-fish hoochie with a flasher. It produces very well, speed changes make a difference as well. Every once in a while put the motor into neutral and let the gear go slack briefly that's usually when a Hali will tend to hit from my experience. The great part about this style of fishing is in June and early July Chinook are feeding on the bottom as well so you will get the best of both worlds. I would try Lighthouse Bank, The Southwest Corner and Long Beach in approx 165 - 200ft of water. If you have good weather and a seaworthy boat then The Wreck and Big Bank are definite Hali hot Spots. It's a little late for this post but if your a annual angler out here then in Summer 2013 try these spots.

Good Luck

Thank you very much Ucluelet Charters for the valuable information, I will dependently give these a try. We fish from a 33' sport fisher and able to access most areas.
