Two New/Old Developments in Salmon/Halibut Lures

Hey Carl didn't we try one of those rigs last August fishing with Jeff ? As I recall we gave it a short soak but not much luck ....but not sure ????
Yes we threw one down right @ the end of the day it looked/ran great but didn't have much time to prove itself.

We fished those rigs back east last summer for stripers and bluefish. They are called umbrella rigs on the east coast. A Baitrix in a Rhys Davis teaser worked very well as the trailing lure.

Cool! [8D]

I see that Striped Bass fishermen use a lot of what we call Salmon gear including Tomic plugs at times.

Dogbreath, do you ever find fish missing the chase bait and trying to take the unhooked squirts?
Sometime it happens with Yellowfin Tuna but not often-that's why I like a bunch of smaller hootchies crowded together.

Other times in the tropics a school of small Mackerel will attack and destroy everything-that happens but not a lot.

All sorts of wierd things get used to attract fish. Down south for Tuna, Billfish, and Dorado, they use different types of dredges, spreader bars, umbrella rigs, daisy chains......but also bowling pins, witch doctors, lightening bolts. The reality is that it's doing the same thing as a flasher, dodger etc.

Blasphemy I tell you, Blasphemy... Next thing will be to get rid of my single action reel with 25lb mono.
Just kidding, I tried a similar setup chum fishing and was surprised at how well it worked. It turned out to be too much trouble when fishing with 4 rods on the boat and multi hookups so went back to old school. Nothing wrong with trying new things as that’s the way we grow.
