TV Providers Vancouver Island

We were Shaw customer for many years before our bright government let Rogers purchase Shaw, While Shaw was not perfect, I was able to connect with them fairly easily and get things sorted out if something went awry. This all changed when Rogers took over and not for the better. All I will say is Rogers together with Shaw is a JOKE"
Any way with less competition than before is any one using Bell or Telus for TV in Qualicum Bay area. Or is there another alternative?
Both pro and con comments are welcome.

Did you notice that your bill is now due before the first week of the month is over? Now I have to stagger my bill payments. It’s a Rogers move all the way.

I have Telus, they overcharge and underwhelm with customer service. Be prepared to hang on the phone for 1-2hrs when needing something. The TV service is dependable and options are varied if you are prepared to pay. Telecom service in Canada is simply price gouging at its finest.

Gr8 Thread ; Thanks for starting, We are also disillusioned over providers , constant message about our 2yr old equipment/ boxes ( that we prefer to buy outright) being incompatible after Nov 11, with no option to purchase newer tech. And we are not interested in contracts or monthly rentals! as the bill always seems always seems quiet convoluted?!☹️

the cheapest option is to flip flop between telus and shaw/rogers

but then you have to deal with the pain of sending back the hardwear every couple of years

Currently, I am internet only with Shaw Rogers and I get a bit of a break for some reason. But for television it’s over the air antenna which gives me about seven hi def channels, and I’ve got Prime included with my Amazon prime membership, which replaced my Netflix which was turning into such a big rip off. I did pay extra for the Prime Video package for 20 a month which I love for some shows but mostly sports. It beats DAZN all to heck.

This is what we are considering.

Just do a search for complaints about telecom providers. According to a report by the ombudsman from April 2024 the numbers are staggering, industry wide complains were up 46% and Rogers alone was up 118%.. Good thing the Liberals have our back.!

We changed from Shaw to Oxio internet and haven’t had a speck of difficulty, and it’s 45$/month now
Just to clarify "Oxio" is only providing internet service?
Cable internet is available in BC from lightspeed,ca ( but no TV) starting at $39.95.
I am looking at TV.

Since the acquisition, have you all noticed your bill moving up? Since the summer mines gone from $178 to $193 now. Apparently it’s related to the box rental. Which I had no clue I was being billed for by Shaw. Anyway, my buddy complained and he got a $100 credit last week. Apparently there are lots of complaints.

Great subject. Yes, my bill has recently gone up. Rogers kept sending me short term offers that would then become higher than I am paying so I ignored them. Now they just started charging me more.
It has been no my to do list to change TV, internet and phone.
Hopefully this thread provides some options.

Rogers/Shaw knocked on our door a few months ago and convinced us to switch from Telus. It ended up being half price for TV, internet (and faster), and my wifes cell phone. They also gave around $500.00 in credits so we didn't see a bill for 4-5 months. It's a two year plan and he said the pricing can be extended another two years at the end of the term which makes me think they expect pricing to come down again.

Telus sure calls a lot now trying to get us back now that Rogers is stealing all their customers away. They've taken enough of my money for now. Well I guess they still are taking our money with our work phones and work internet. Loyal customers get treated like crap.

I just went though this with them 250 actually showed up for a box coast on mine with shaw had to argue and get it reversed and told them I have Telus calling me and coming to my door and there pulling this bs
