As you can see, it wasnt quite the day you guys had out there! It was pretty nasty on the way out, almost 2 Mt seas, but came down. Foggy and cool all day, pretty typical west coast day realy. Lots of action. Had my 14 yr old son, Logan, good friend Colin, and Jody who Owns the boat, "Trophy Hunter" a 32 foot Lhures with twin diesals, and myself. We are in for the shootout!! It was a blast. Got on it a bit late this year, but lookout next year. The Hielan' Lassie will be all over this stuff !!!

Yeah so awesome!!!

Cool Ian, we'll have a fleet runnin' out for sure.

Slivo just called and there's more video footage to hit youtube so stay tunered...

Next years shootout will be a holler!

Gimee the gaff!!!

If a guy wanted to get in on the shootout I assume it would go out of Bamfield. I usually stay on my boat-is there a marina-lodge for a tie-up in Bamfield. I have gotten gas there once before but I have only fished out of there once many years ago. I usually fish out of WH so I'm pretty green about the Bamfield area although I have flown over it many times. Where is the best place to launch? PA or can you trail down to Bamfield and launch there? Early days but I am thinking seriously about it. Might finally get to meet some of you guys.

A good guy named don has got the twin opti's . He got a lil shack in grappler. If the fuel was 7 hundy with the opti's ?? I was hoping I could do a tuna run for less than three hundy with my lil Honda 225?? I will have spots on my boat open as I don't have solid fishn partners that like to go off... So as the tuna season starts we will have to arrange numbers. I don't want to miss it like I did this year....

Hey all is this run possible on 2 strokes? Or is the fuel going to be chewed through too fast??? 24 foot Striper with twin 115hp and 100 gal tank

Trophywife I will go with you and chip in for what ever you need bro, us tri-city guys have to stick together. Let me know and I am there.

them are 4-strokers.Try a G-note for the day in gas....SWEET ride though and worth every penny:D

On a average day with your 225 honda,you could bank on burning a good 100gal anyway...so $450-500?

I spent just over $ 300/day with my twin 2 stroke Opti's [^]

Thats pretty poor mileage I would say/ You are looking at a little over 100 miles round trip unless you have to go a bit farther, so say 120 round trip. I pushed a 26 foot Prowler with a Honda Davidson 225 for 5 years and got a least 2 miles to the gallon, so you are looking at about 60 gals give or take. I now have a Suzy 300 and get even better mileage, so will burn about 50 gals on a 100 mile rd trip.
Did it a few times doing the triangle this summer. Bam to starfish to bigbank back to bam. 85 miles = 200 lts, or 45 gal.

One suggestion for next time around-the Guys standing around waiting for a Tuna to be boated should be throwing jigs.

The pics are of some large model Deadly Dicks that I've used in many places they work exceptionally well and are easy to find here in BC.As you can see in the pics beef up the rings/hooks and you're good to go.

Just fire the jig off to the side of the boat and count to 5 slowly, then retrieve it medium fast-don't make Jiggy Jiggy just bring it back.Small spinner blades are optional.

If that doesn't work let it drop to a count of 10 and Burn It!.

You could try dropping it straight down and burning it up I have had it work on occasion but DD jigs aren't all that heavy depends on the current if it'll work.

Love those Opti's[8D]
You guys had a little shorter run last time though!

The fuel bill for the 52 mile fishing day was $ 313 including 2 - 4 litre jugs of oil. I think it was around 240 litres, if i remember right.

About the same fuel milage I am getting out of the Grady. Big bank and back is 100 - 125 litres depending on weather and my mood;)

Dons boat ran up there for sure. I think was 160 miles round trip trolling in.

Comfy as hell. Wouldnt hesitate to foot that bill over and over for that comfort!!!!

Droooling for next year.

That's no more than my Orca burns on a regular 3 day trip to WH. Hey that's cheap for the fishing trip of the year!!

Im not sure my boat would hold enough fuel. I havnt pin pointed my fuel consumption, however I burn between approx 80 liters/ hr. off shore. Maybe averaging 20 mph if the weathers good. So with 600 liters of fuel, Id be approx 50 liters short if the run is 160 miles round trip.

Im planning to install an 80 liter reserve tank this spring. Its doable, however Id probably bring a few extra jugs to be safe.. man, thats pricey.

Thats 1000$ for me. Split between 5 guys wouldnt be too bad. What worries me the most is having one engine go down and have to get back in at 8 mph on one engine!
