Hey folks. I have a 50 HP merc 2 stroke. Lately its been a ***** to start. I need to crank, then disconnect the fuel, crank some more, hook it back up and after 3-4 times doing this she'll fire up and run great. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What year?

Water in your tank. Prolly just condensation. Always a problem in winter with our swings in temp and humidity.
Methyl hydrate and Sta bil are now your friends. Fuel/water sep if you are really keen. Keep it warm too if you can. gl

I just added the stabil the other day and have had it out for one run. Haven't tries starting since. I'll give it a shot on the morning. The boat is kept in my garage which is effin cold. Add methyl hydrate to the tank? Not sure what to do with it. Thanks for replying.

Methyl hydrate to the tank, not only a gas line antifreeze but also works as a drier if you have any water

With my very limited mechanical knowledge, it sounds more like you are flooding it or the plugs are fouled.
I'd pull the plugs and clean and regap, or just replace, as a first step.

With an 05 I would say moisture is where I would start looking.

Methyl hydrate is good start..

Not that familiar with Mercs, but it sounds more like a lack of choke to me.

Probably electric choke on that... turn the key with the cowling off(not to crank). Make sure its working?

Not something to overlook

Thanks very much for the replies fellas. I'm gonna get I.to it this morning.

Started up just fine after adding stabil and taking it for good burn. Problem seems fixed:)
