Trophy XL reel maintenance

Just bought a couple of new Trophy XL QR reels and was wondering if anyone has any maintenance tips. I already had an issue with the drag being frozen and wonder if I was supposed to take them apart and lube them prior to using? All that comes with them is an expanded diagram. Any thought on what to lube etc. appreciated!

Yes you need to lube them before use as they don't come lubed from the factory.

I find the cork likes a bit of time to let the reel oil soak in - esp when new. I put on several drops on the cork, wipe it around w my finger, then leave it sit face up overnite before re-assy. If you tightem the drag right away, the oil can get compressed outwards before the cork has a chance to absorb any, as the arbor spins.

Once you use the reel a bit more, you can tell when it needs oiling - the smoothness gets just a bit 'jerky' - twice a year does it for me ( spring and pre-tuna season ) btw, if you think salmon wap your knuckles....

This is a good guideline to follow.....I used it when I first got my Trophy's a few years back.

i do mine every 4 or 5 weeks but it gets used everyday i use any oil the best ive found is corrosion block make sure sparay bearings and everything , also make sure you wipe oil off dont want too much on it like tyke said. if there is too much it will be jerky as well most but not dripping wet.

Ive been using them for almost 8 years now havent had a bearing go or had to replace anything for the price awesome reel.....
