well .. third times a charm I guess...Big thanks to Dane from HC for going out of his way get my trophy rod replaced a second time.... unfortunately the third model was no stronger then the second or first, this one broke under the incredible strain of a 4lb coho... Really love my trophy xl 9' medium heavy in fibreglass that I bought to replace this one after the second breakage, it has been outstanding... After asking the trophy rod rep at pirate days why these rods keep snapping his reply was " we need to make them stronger" well yes sir you do...010.jpg

you might not be in the mood to try another, but I have been very pleased w the TTSA4106 model. Maybe they will warranty to diff rod?
I have a G-loomis 1265 that I compare it against and slightly prefer the Titan - even caught Yellowtail tuna 25-30lbs, in Baja last fall - pulled pretty hard with it when the tuna was spiraling under the boat 40' down. The Americans w 7' rods in 30-50lb class did not think I would land any fish on a 10'6" 'flyrod'

Titan has been excellent with warranty but I don't believe i will get another grafite,im sticking with the fiberglass trophyXL 9' medium heavy 15-25lb...

the rod I keep repeatedly breaking is a ttsa490 9' 4power single action...in my opinion it is not strong enough to even be considered a trolling rod. the fibreglass 9' xl is perfect for almost 1/3 the price..

What's the model # on your 9' Trophy XL,jeffy,if you don't mind me asking.I'm in the market for a couple of tough
fiberglass downrigger rods for the boat and these sound ideal.

This is entirely reason I stayed clear of trophy titans... JUNK IMHO. I run trophy xl 10 6's way stronger and proven rod. 6-7 seasons...Fought lots of big fish on them they are very good. Trophy missed the boat ...but I thought by now this was over with the breaking issue.

If you pay 200+ for a rod it should be able to tolerate popping off a release clip (lots of guys say they break when this is done). Even a cheap convergence won't randomly break like this. But people will keep buying them..

That XL rod Jeff will be twice as strong you will have it for years...

That is good Jeff they honored warranty.

I haven't taken the 3rd one in yet..but yes I am happy with the XL fibreglass ..it is half the price of the graphite too..

The only other one I find that rivals these ones is the one I use for winter for steel head the 10-6 shimano technium.. Strong butt rod. Still no where near cost of titans...

The older rapala classic moocher has a real rice feel to it and is very nicely built with beauty cork for only a brown bill.

I have a pair of Trophy Titan XL TTSA 2106 rods.

One bit the bullet and was replaced under warranty, as it should be under any reputable dealer.

It broke in the same spot as Jeffy's did in the above photo, 3 or 4 eyes down from the tip.

The other has been performing well and has caught a half a dozen springs so far this season with no issues.

I really like the balance of the Titan XL rods, so I am hoping that they can hold up over time...

Other rod I fish is a 10'6 Technium medium, but I prefer the balance and feel of the Trophy Titan XL.

Regards,

really like the feel of the trophy titan also but the 9' model is bunk 100%

You can borrow my Titan XL 2106 (10'6 2 power) to use on feeders this winter and see if it holds up better than the 9 footer.

Popping a tight down rigger clip at 150 feet should be a great way to test the Titan's durability...

I really like the 9 foot fiberglass.. Probly stick with them, my boat hull is shot so i shouldnt need the second rod till next year when i replace it with a better boat.
