Thing about fishing is that bait size matters. If you want to target big fish, use big bait. Big fish can and will take any sized bait, but a small fish are not always able to grab a larger sized bait... Use a 5-6" spoon with some pro-cure or similar scent on it and fish deeper, like 50-75' deep near shelves or structure on the bottom where the big springs hide waiting to ambush the bait as it comes past.
When I'm targeting pink I run one 3"spoon at 25-30 feet deep, and one hoochie or small squirt at 40-50' at the deepest. My biggest springs were always caught at 75-100' on big bait. Different methods for different fish.
