Trolling flyrods off downriggers?

Ive heard of a few guys doing this and was thinking about getting a 9/10 with a fighting butt to use in the flow for springs/chum and to troll with a little knuckbuster. How practicle is it? Im thinking they might not have the backbone to pop off the downrigger ect. Anyone use em or am i askin to much?

Know a few people that do that without any problem. Just put the line in the release a little lighter and give an extra wack after its popped, my buddy used to use them in Nootka for springs.

I've been doing this for quite a while now for coho in the fall...my clients love it...it is a simple and effective way to hook a fish on a fly.
Not really fly fishing but if you want to ask an expert on the subject of saltwater flyfishing...jason tonelli at pacific angler...great guy and easy to talk too.

thanks for the input guys what wt rod do you use? Talked to a few guys and it sounds like breaking them isnt to hard.
